Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic suppurative inflammation of the apocrine sweat glands. Axillary, inframammary, intermammary, and peri-areolar apocrine gland involvement may be visualized mammographically. Characteristic lesions tend to be round or oval, lucent, and smooth-bordered, with or without central densities. While diagnosis made purely via mammography is unlikely, having an awaren...

Syringocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP) and tubular apocrine adenoma (TAA) are rare benign sweat gland tumors. SCAP and TAA may have a histopathologic overlap, but few cases of a SCAP combined with a TAA have been reported. Herein we describe an unusual case of a SCAP co-existing with a TAA located on the back of a 12-year-old girl.

Hidrocystoma is a rare cystic lesion arising from the sweat glands, and is classified into apocrine and eccrine variants, with the majority being of apocrine nature [1]. It is usually found in the head and neck region, and commonly affects the periorbital area [1, 2]. Apocrine hidrocystoma is characterized histopathologically by the presence of a unilocular or multilocular cyst situated in the ...

A 28-year-old woman presented with multiple, asymptomatic, erythematous to bluish papules located on the chest. Histopathologically, three round, well defined cystic structures were seen on the upper and lower dermis. The first cyst was milia, the second was apocrine hidrocystoma and the other, largest cyst was an eruptive vellus hair cyst (EVHC). A diagnosis of multiple pilosebaceous cysts com...

Many treatment modalities have been developed for axillary osmidrosis. It is well known that the surgical treatment has the best results. However, there is a high possibility of side effects. The 1,444-nm lipolysis laser has been recently introduced to remove the apocrine glands. So far, subdermal coagulation treatment with a 1,444-nm Nd:YAG laser may be the least invasive and most effective th...

Fox-Fordyce Disease (FFD) is a rare, chronic, pruritic, inflammatory disorder of apocrine glands. It is characterized by dome-shaped, firm, discrete, skin-colored, and monomorphic perifollicular papules. The most common sites of involvement are axillae and anogenital and periareolar regions which are rich in apocrine sweat glands. Treatment is difficult. Topical, intralesional steroids, topical...

We undertook a retrospective pathological study of 118 skin resection specimens from 101 patients with hidradenitis suppurativa. Follicular occlusion was identified in all the specimens, regardless of disease duration (1 month to 18 years), but was not noted in the axillary and inguinal skin of controls. We therefore regard follicular occlusion as an early and important feature in the pathogene...
