Sphere-like shaped cobalt oxide nanoparticles (Co3O4) were synthesized by a simple wet chemical method using cobalt chloride as precursor and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant. Their structural and surface morphologial properties were characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-ray diffra...

A study of polyaniline (PANI) doping with various cobalt compounds, that is, cobalt(II) chloride, cobalt(II) acetate, and cobalt(II) salen, is presented. The catalysts were prepared by depositing cobalt compounds onto the polymer surface. PANI powders containing cobalt ions were obtained by one- or two-step method suspending PANI in the following acetonitrile/acetic acid solution or acetonitril...

A mononuclear cobalt(II) complex as a homogeneous molecular catalyst for photochemically, electrochemically and chemically induced oxygen evolution reactions is presented. Experimental evidence points towards the presence of a chloride ligand at the cobalt centre throughout the catalytic cycle, and the temporary detachment of a pyridine ligand to open a coordination site for substrate binding.

The local electronic structure of the cobalt centre-ion of Co(III) protoporphyrin IX chloride dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) liquid solution is studied by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectroscopy at the cobalt L-edge. The resulting cobalt 2p partial-fluorescence-yield (PFY) X-ray absorption (XA) spectrum, integrated from RIXS spectra, is simulated for various possible spi...

Inhibition of the growth of Escherichia coli M.R.E. 600 by six different metal salts was accompanied by a greater decrease in the synthesis of RNA than in that of protein. The action of cobalt chloride was exceptional; inhibited cells made an excess of RNA to an extent depending on the concentration of Co(2+), the time of incubation and the concentration of Mg(2+) in the medium. Preferential sy...

Assimilation of ionic cobalt by axenic cultures of four species of anaerobic rumen bacteria was measured using 6oCo as cobalt (II) chloride. Uptake could be measured in all four species but may not represent active accumulation in the case of Lactobacillus casei and Propionibacterium acnes. Significant uptake (89.5% of 6oCo present) was demonstrated by Selenomonas ruminantium from media contain...

Erythropoietin (EPO) gene transcription is activated in kidney cells in vivo and in Hep3B cells exposed to hypoxia or cobalt chloride. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) is a nuclear factor that binds to the hypoxia-inducible enhancer of the EPO gene at a site that is required for transcriptional activation. HIF-1 DNA-binding activity is induced by hypoxia or cobalt chloride treatment of Hep3B ...

β-SiC-supported cobalt catalysts have been prepared from nitrate, acetate, chloride and citrate salts to study the dependence of Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) on the type of precursor. Com/SiC catalysts were synthetized by vacuum-assisted impregnation while N2 adsorption/desorption, XRD, TEM, TPR, O2 pulses and acid/base titrations were used as characterization techniques. FTS catalytic perfo...

Pure cobalt coatings were electrodeposited on copper substrate by means of direct electric current in a chloride solution at different current densities in the range of 10-70 mA cm -2 . The surface morphology and microstructure were investigated via X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Corrosion behavior of cobalt coatings was also studied in a 3.5 wt% NaCl soluti...
