Species of Bibionidae from Baltic amber are reevaluated based on newly discovered material, and a key to the species is given. Bibio succineus sp. nov. described one male specimen, this first named amber. The males Hesperinus electrus Skartveit, 2009 Penthetria montanaregis redescribed. A single, autoclave treated specimen but not formally named. Plecia tenuicornis found be synonym hoffeinsorum...

The AMBER and CHARMM force fields are analyzed from the viewpoint of the permutational symmetry of the potential for feasible exchanges of identical atoms and chemical groups in amino and nucleic acids. In each case, we propose schemes for symmetrizing the potentials, which greatly facilitate the bookkeeping associated with constructing kinetic transition networks via geometry optimization.

A first analysis of caterpillars of Tineidae and their cases preserved in Eocene Baltic Amber is presented, and an ecological interpretation based on comparisons with extant Tineidae is given. Several informative syninclusions (e.g., mammal hairs, Psocoptera) of two of the cases suggest that the caterpillars of some Tineidae in the Baltic Amber forest occupied comparable ecological niches as th...

A novel method to link a nascent protein (phenotype) to its mRNA (genotype) covalently through the N-terminus was developed. The mRNA harboring amber stop codon at just downstream of initiation site was hybridized with hydrazide-modified ssDNA at upstream of coding region and was ligated to the DNA. This construct was then modified with 4-acetyl-phenylalanyl amber suppressor tRNA. This modified...

PSTEIN et al. (1963) have defined the “genes” of T4 by means of compleE mentation tests between the members of many pairs of amber and temperature-sensitive mutations. In tests involving at least one amber mutant, the results are clear cut-one observes either no complementation or complementation sufficient to produce a yield of phage comparable to that obtained in infections by wild-type T4 (E...

India's unique and highly diverse biota combined with its unique geodynamical history has generated significant interest in the patterns and processes that have shaped the current distribution of India's flora and fauna and their biogeographical relationships. Fifty four million year old Cambay amber from northwestern India provides the opportunity to address questions relating to endemism and ...

The traffic light scheme is composed of red, green, and amber lights, and it has been defined clearly for the traffic access of red and green lights; however, the definition of that for the amber light is indistinct, which leads to the appearance of uncertainty factors and serious traffic conflicts during the amber light. At present, the traffic administrations are faced with the decision of wh...
