We study amalgams and the strong, weak, and special amalgamation bases in the varieties of nilpotent groups of class two and exponent n, where n is odd. The main result is the characterization of the special amalgamation bases for these varieties. We also characterize the weak and strong bases. For special amalgamation bases we show that there are groups which are special bases in varieties of ...

Some recent results on a general summability method, on the so-called θ-summability is summarized. New spaces, such as Wiener amalgams, Feichtinger’s algebra and modulation spaces are investigated in summability theory. Sufficient and necessary conditions are given for the norm and a.e. convergence of the θ-means.

For Canadians with amalgam-filled teeth, it was estimated that total mercury (Hg) exposure averages: 3.3 µg Hg/day in toddlers (aged 3 to 4 years); 5.6 µg Hg/day in children (aged 5 to 11 years); 6.7 µg Hg/day in teens (aged 12 to 19 years); 9.4 µg Hg/day in adults (aged 20 to 59 years); and 6.8 µg Hg/day in seniors (aged 60+ years). Of this exposure, amalgam was estimated to contribute 50% to ...

Subjects working in or living near informal gold mining and processing in southern Peru were studied to determine mercury exposures from two tasks: amalgamation and amalgam smelting. The authors collected 17 airborne and 41 urinary mercury levels. The mean urinary levels were 728 (range: 321-1662) and 113 (45-197) microg/L for working in smelters and living near smelters, respectively. A third ...

There are some 60 gold-mining sites in the Bento Gomes River basin (Mato Grosso), at the border of the Mato Grosso Pantanal (Swamp), where mercury is used to agglutinate fine gold particles through amalgamation. During burning of the amalgam to release the gold, mercury vapor is lost to the atmosphere, since closed systems for mercury recovery are not always used. This study shows the results o...

The fundamental groups of most (conjecturally, all) closed 3manifolds with uniform geometries have finite complete rewriting systems. The fundamental groups of a large class of amalgams of circle bundles also have finite complete rewriting systems. The general case remains open.

This is a survey of a recent work done by the three authors, in which an analysis of geometric properties of a structure relative to a reduct is initiated. In particular, definable groups and fields in this context are considered. In a relatively 1-based theory every group is definably isogenous to a subgroup of a group definable in the reduct. For relatively CM-trivial theories (which encompas...

Aim: This study was done to evaluate the rate of microleakage in class V amalgam restorations in which the dental bonding agent (DBA) Excite was used as a sealer beneath the restorations. Methods: four amalgam restorative materials with commercial names of Dentam, Cinalux, Tytin and SDI (GS-80) were used. Seventy sound human premolars were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups of 15 teeth...
