Backgrounds and Objectives: Reactive dyestuff has potential of toxicity, carcinogenesis and mutagenesis for mammals and aquatic organisms. The current physical and chemical methods such as adsorption, coagulation, precipitation, filtration and ... can been used for removing of dyestuff. Biological treatment which is effective and economic for decontamination of dyestuff wastewaters was preferre...

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition characterised by a variable degree of airflow limitation. Exacerbations during the course of asthma often occur due to environmental factors or infectious, mostly viral, aetiology. The present study reports the case of a 61-yr-old male with severe asthma hospitalised due to increasing respiratory distress. Since recovery was delayed despite anti-obstru...

Aromatic amine dehydrogenase was purified and characterized from Alcaligenes xylosoxidans IFO13495 grown on beta-phenylethylamine. The molecular mass of the enzyme was 95.5 kDa. The enzyme consisted of heterotetrameric subunits (alpha2beta2) with two different molecular masses of 42.3 kDa and 15.2 kDa. The N-terminal amino acid sequences of the alpha-subunit (42.3-kDa subunit) and the beta-subu...

Dissimilatory nitrite reductase was isolated from extracts of Alcaligenes xylosoxidans subsp. xylosoxidans (N.C.I.M.B. 11015), after activation of crude extracts by the addition of copper(II) sulphate. The enzyme was purified by a combination of (NH4)2SO4 fractionation and cationic-exchange chromatography to 93% homogeneity as judged by SDS/PAGE. SDS/PAGE and spray m.s. showed that the enzyme h...

Alcaligenes denitrificans NTB-1, previously isolated on 4-chlorobenzoate, also utilized 4-bromo-, 4-iodo-, and 2,4-dichlorobenzoate but not 4-fluorobenzoate as a sole carbon and energy source. During growth, stoichiometric amounts of halide were released. Experiments with whole cells and cell extracts revealed that 4-bromo- and 4-iodobenzoate were metabolized like 4-chlorobenzoate, involving an...

The membrane-bound hydrogenase of Alcaligenes eutrophus was solubilized from washed membranes of autotrophically grown cells. The enzyme consists of two types of subunits and is an iron-sulfur protein. A flavin compound was not detected. The enzyme reacts only with few artificial electron acceptors.
