Aeromonas was classified previously with Vibrio species and Pleisomonas shigelloides in the Vibrionaceae [1]. Based on molecular genetic evidence, Aeromonas species is assigned separate family, Aeromonadaceae[1,2] . The genus aeromonas had been divided into 2 typesmesophilic which are potent human pathogens and psychrophilic consisting of non motile Aeromonas salmonicida [3]. Aeromonas verionii...

Gastrointestinal infections of Aeromonas species are generally considered waterborne; for this reason, Aeromonas hydrophila has been placed on the United States Environmental Protection Agency Contaminant Candidate List of emerging pathogens in drinking water. In this study, we compared pulsed-field gel electrophoresis patterns of Aeromonas isolates from stool specimens of patients with diarrhe...

Between January 1988 and December 1989 Aeromonas species were isolated from 45 (1.8%) of 2,480 patients with acute gastroenteritis. No other bacterial enteric pathogens were found in any of these 45 patients. Of the 45 Aeromonas isolates, 35 strains (77.8%) were Aeromonas hydrophila, 7 (15.5%) were Aeromonas sobria, and 3 (6.7%) were Aeromonas caviae. Most of the patients were under 5 years of ...

A previously described molecular method, based on 16S rDNA RFLP analysis, for the identification of Aeromonas spp. was unable to separate the species Aeromonas salmonicida, Aeromonas bestiarum and the recently described Aeromonas popoffii. In this study, the method has been extended with endonucleases AIwNI and PstI for the identification of these species. A molecular frame for the identificati...

“Aeromonas” (Graf, 2015) is a new coming reference hardback and ebook that provides an overview on taxonomy, ecology, and pathogenicity of the genus Aeromonas, a group of bacterial species in the gamma subclass of the Proteobacteria (i.e., Gammaproteobacteria). Aeromonas is a Gram-negative, motile, and facultative anaerobic bacterium. Some of the members are associated to infections in humans, ...

A total of 82 strains of presumptive Aeromonas spp. were identified biochemically and genetically (16S rDNA-RFLP). The strains were isolated from 250 samples of frozen fish (Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus niloticus) purchased in local markets in Mexico City. In the present study, we detected the presence of several genes encoding for putative virulence factors and phenotypic activities that may...

We have identified the genes ascF and ascG, which encode components of a putative type III secretion system (TTSS) in AEROMONAS: We investigated the distribution of these and other TTSS genes in 84 clinical isolates and found hybridizing sequences in 50% of the strains, with a higher prevalence in Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas veronii than in Aeromonas caviae.

The occurrence of Aeromonas spp. in the Porsuk River, public drinking water and tap water in the City of Eskisehir (Turkey) was monitored. Fresh water samples were collected from several sampling sites during a period of one year. Total 102 typical colonies of Aeromonas spp. were submitted to biochemical tests for species differentiation and of 60 isolates were confirmed by biochemical tests. F...

The GC-rich bacterial species, Aeromonas salmonicida, is parasitised by both GC-rich phages (Aeromonas phages - phiAS7 and vB_AsaM-56) and GC-poor phages (Aeromonas phages - 25, 31, 44RR2.8t, 65, Aes508, phiAS4 and phiAS5). Both the GC-rich Aeromonas phage phiAS7 and Aeromonas phage vB_AsaM-56 have nearly identical codon usage bias as their host. While all the remaining seven GC-poor Aeromonas ...

Motile and mesophilic Aeromonas strains can presumptively be differentiated into species in 18 to 24 h by testing the isolates for the production of a CAMP-like factor. Aeromonas hydrophila strains were positive either aerobically or anaerobically, Aeromonas sobria strains were positive only aerobically, and Aeromonas caviae strains were always negative.
