cidae) mosquitoes is strongly associated with the epidemiology of arboviral diseases transmitted by them. Risk factors for emergence of these diseases are continued urbanization, industrialization and transport development, all of which contribute to the maintenance and spread of major Aedes vectors; Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (Stegomyia albopictus)1–2. Before any attempt is made to emp...

Globally mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs) represent a real public health problem especially those transmitted via Aedes mosquitoes. Among these vittatus Bigot plays an important role in the transmission of some arboviruses viz yellow fever, dengue Zika, and chikungunya viruses. Several regions Sudan suffered from Aedes-borne diseases, fever. Entomological surveys were conducted Kassala State, eas...

Zika virus has recently spread throughout the Americas. Although Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are considered the primary vector, Culex quinquefasciatus and mosquitoes of other species may also be vectors. We tested Cx. quinquefasciatus and Ae. taeniorhynchus mosquitoes from the US Gulf Coast; both were refractory to infection and incapable of transmission.

Reciprocal and homologous mating experiments between Malaysian Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes were conducted in the laboratory. Two methods were employed, namely an artificial mating technique and a natural cage mating technique. The study demonstrated there exists a strong reproductive isolation between Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus. Insemination occurred in cross-mating experi...

Since a safe and effective mass vaccination program against dengue fever is not presently available, a good way to prevent and control dengue outbreaks depends mainly on controlling the mosquito vectors. Aedes aegypti mosquito populations can be monitored and reduced by using ovitraps baited with organic infusions. A series of laboratory experiments were conducted which demonstrated that the ba...

Five species of invasive Aedes mosquitoes have recently become established in Europe: Ae. albopictus, Ae. aegypti, Ae. japonicus japonicus, Ae. koreicus and Ae. atropalpus. These mosquitoes are a serious nuisance for people and are also competent vectors for several exotic pathogens such as dengue and chikungunya viruses. As they are a growing public health concern, methods to control these mos...
