BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Renal biopsy in acute renal failure of unknown origin provides irreplaceable information for diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. This study analyzed the frequency and clinicopathologic correlations of renal native biopsied acute renal failure in Spain during the period 1994 through 2006. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Acute renal failure was defined a...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Despite advances in prevention of acute rejection and improved short- and long-term kidney graft survival, recurrent glomerulonephritis remains problematic and poorly characterized. This study analyzed prevalence and outcome of recurrent glomerulonephritis from various registries. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Definition, classification, and limitatio...

Background and objectives. The mesangial deposition of IgA is rarely described with proliferative glomerulonephritis associated with Staphylococcus infection. Recently, this association has been increasingly recognized possibly due to the increased rate of Staphylococcus infection. Design setting, participants and measurements. We report two cases of methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus ...

Interleukin-17A (IL-17) promotes inflammatory renal tissue damage in mouse models of crescentic glomerulonephritis, including murine experimental autoimmune anti-myeloperoxidase glomerulonephritis, which most likely depends on IL-17-producing Th17 cells. In human anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated glomerulonephritis, however, the cellular sources of IL-17 remain to be elucid...

Postinfectious acute glomerulonephritis (PIGN) may occur after various bacterial and viral infections. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a cause of chronic glomerulonephritis. We report here 10 cases (ages 7-20 years-old) of chronic HBV carriers with acute glomerulonephritis, with positive glomerular staining of hepatitis B surface antigen, and detectable presence of HBV DNA in the glomeruli...

BACKGROUND We report a previously unrecognized and unreported case of a patient with anti-glomerular basement membrane glomerulonephritis following nintedanib, an orally active small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor. CASE PRESENTATION A 59-year-old Caucasian woman with a history of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis presented with severe acute kidney injury (creatinine 285 umol/L) secondary to a...

Acute renal failure developed in a diabetic with staphylococcal arthritis and septicaemia in the absence of endocarditis. Renal biopsy showed proliferative glomerulonephritis and there was evidence of alternative pathway of complement activation. Renal function recovered following haemodialysis for 2 months. The association of glomerulonephritis with staphylococcal infection is reviewed.

Glomerulonephritis is reported as a rare extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease. We report a case of a 69-year-old woman who suffered from membranous glomerulonephritis, 3 years after diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome. She was admitted because of acute kidney failure, bloody diarrhea, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Further evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of ulcerative coli...

Renal changes in snake bite include tubular necrosis, cortical necrosis, interstitial nephritis, arteritis, and thrombophlebitis.'-3 Glomerular changes are usually mild,' and severe glomerulonephritis is uncommon.4 We report the case of a patient bitten by a Russell's viper who presented with acute renal failure. A renal biopsy specimen showed extracapillary proliferative glomerulonephritis in ...
