The paper deals with the determination of synchronous machine parameters using a 2D Finite Element Method – FEM (Flux2DCedrat). Simulations of no-load sudden three phase shortcircuits are performed in rotation, the saturation effects and the eddy currents in the rotor solid iron parts are also taken into account. Comparisons between calculations and measurements for two large existing units (tu...
Measurements made on superconducting very thin layers are analysed by modelization using 2D FEM. The electric field distribution is established and can be seen the differences of this distribution during the superconductive transition. The calculation of the temperature variation of the resistivity is made based on measured temperature variation of the resistance, taking into account also the e...
The present work shows the material flow analysis in indentation by the numerical two dimensional Finite Elements (FEM) method and the experimental two-dimensional Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method. To achieve deep indentation without cracking, a ductile material, 99% tin, is used. The results obtained from the DIC technique depend predominantly on the pattern conferred to the samples. Due...
An hybridization between two numerical methods, the 1d Wave Concept Iterative Procedure (WCIP) and the 2d Finite Element Method (FEM), is developed. Using two examples, comparisons are provided between the new hybrid method and an analytic solution, when available, or the WCIP alone.
A 2D Finite Element Model (F.E.M.) of chip formation process, set up with an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (A.L.E.) formulation, proposed in the software Abaqus/Explicit TM v6.3, is shown. The experimental validation showed a good qualitative agreement. Thus, FEM of cutting process can be considered as a promising and reliable tool for machining development within the near future.
Hybridization between a method of moments called WCIP (Wave Concept Iterative Procedure) and volumic methods like the FDTLM (Frequency Domain Transmission Line Method), the FEM (Finite Element Method) and the HDG (Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin) method is presented in 2d in this paper. The considered problem is the Helmholtz equation in the frequency domain. Two test cases are provided to ...
The forward problem in Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) requires an accurate estimation of its solution. Although analytical solutions exist for a limited number of cases, there is no suitable analytical solution for the geometry of the human head. A commonly adopted method is the use of Finite Element Methods (FEM). However, the human head consists of layers, which include the scalp and C...
The objective of this study is to show that Harmonic Motion Imaging (HMI) can be used as a reliable tumor-mapping technique based on the tumor's distinct stiffness at the early onset of disease. HMI is a radiation-force-based imaging method that generates a localized vibration deep inside the tissue to estimate the relative tissue stiffness based on the resulting displacement amplitude. In this...
This paper presents the use of a finite element method (FEM) to analyze shear lag effect due flexure beams with an arbitrary cross-section and homogeneous elastic material. Beams are constrained by most common types supports, such as fixed, pinned, roller. The transverse, concentrated, or distributed loads act on through center cross-section. presented FEM transforms 3D analysis phenomenon into...
