FIVE cattle serum albumin phenotypes resolved by starch gel electrophoresis have been described briefly by ASHTON and LAMPKIN (1 964). It was suggested that the variation represented serum albumin polymorphism controlled by a locus with three alleles. Further observations on albumin phenotypes have been made on British and Zebu beef and dairy cattle in Australia and are the subject of this report.

The serological prevalence of Coxiella burnetii in cattle in Malawi is unknown. Serum samples from 200 Malawian zebu cattle were tested for C. burnetii antibodies using the complement fixation test. The percentage of positive and suspicious titres was 1.5% and 5% respectively.

This slaughterhouse study in Chad shows higher proportions of Mycobacterium bovis isolates among Mbororo than Arabe zebu cattle. Spoligotyping shows a homogenetic population structure for M. bovis and lack of spacer 30, as were found in neighboring Cameroon and Nigeria. Lipomatosis is described in a miniature Zebu, Bos primigenius indicus, bull that died of perianesthetic complications. This is the first pathologic description of lipomatosis that we are aware of in this species and breed of cattle.
