Although arterialovenous fistulae (AVF) is considered to be vital for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, but they may cause complications and problems. For instance they may fail soon after their creation. The most important cause of failure in these cases is intrafistula thrombus formation. Whereas anti-platelet drugs are not routinely used after fistulae creation, we conducted this stud...

Complications associated with hemodialysis vascular access represent one ofthe most important sources of morbidity among ESRD patients in the United States today. In this study, new data on the magnitude and growth of vascular access-related hospitalization in the United States is presented, demonstrating that the costs of this morbidity will soon exceed $1 billion per yr. This study also revie...

BACKGROUND Progressive narrowing of the venous part of dialysis fistulae is caused by hemodynamic and inflammatory factors. OBJECTIVES The pathogenic and clinical determinants of deterioration of the functioning of arteriovenous fistulae in chronically hemodialyzed patients were evaluated. MATERIAL AND METHODS The hemodynamic parameters and the activity of inflammatory growth factors in the...

We report the first documented case of iatrogenic aortocoronary fistula to the left marginal coronary vein following coronary bypass surgery. Unique clinical data, findings from catheterization, and angiographic features are presented and compared with those in the seven previously reported cases of iatrogenic aortocoronary venous fistulae after coronary bypass operations.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Given different sites of stenosis and access blood flow rates (Qa), the criteria for diagnosing fistula stenosis might vary according to anastomotic site. To test this, we analyzed the database of a prospective blinded study seeking an optimal bedside screening program for fistula stenosis. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Several methods used during dia...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Permanent hemodialysis vascular access is crucial for RRT in ESRD patients and patients with failed renal transplants, because central venous catheters are associated with greater risk of infection and mortality than arteriovenous fistulae or arteriovenous grafts. The objective of this study was to determine the types of vascular access used by patients initiating hemo...

BACKGROUND Pulsatile tinnitus, unlike idiopathic tinnitus, usually has a specific, identifiable cause. Nonetheless, uncertainty often arises in clinical practice about the findings to be sought and the strategy for work-up. METHODS Selective literature review and evaluation of our own series of patients. RESULTS Pulsatile tinnitus can have many causes. No prospective studies on this subject...

Non-maturation is a feature of autologous vascular access. The autologous arteriovenous fistula needs time to mature and for the vein to enlarge to a size where it can be needled for dialysis. A fistula that fails early is one that either never develops adequately to support dialysis or fails within the first three months of its use. Two variables are required for fistula maturation. Firstly, t...

Acroangiodermatitis, often known as pseudo-Kaposi sarcoma, is an uncommon angioproliferative entity related to chronic venous insufficiency, arteriovenous fistulae, paralysed limbs, amputation stumps, vascular syndromes and conditions associated with thrombosis. It presents most frequently as purple macules, papules or plaques in the dorsal aspects of the feet, especially the toes, and the mall...
