PURPOSE Intranasal administration of phospholipid-based gelatin nanoparticles (GNP) was prepared to investigate the neuro-recovery effects of neuropeptide Substance P (SP) on hemiparkinsonian rats. METHODS The SP-loaded gelatin nanoparticles (SP-GNP) were prepared by a water-in-water emulsion method and possessed high stability, encapsulating efficiency and loading capacity. PC-12 cells were ...

The physiological patterns, the sequence polymorphisms of the internal transcriber spacer (ITS), and intergenic spacer regions (IGS) of the rRNA genes and the antifungal susceptibility profile were evaluated for their ability to identify Trichosporon spp. and their specificity for the identification of 49 clinical isolates of Trichosporon spp. Morphological and biochemical methodologies were un...

Consumption of the isoflavones daidzein, genistein, glycitein, and their structural analogues is generally considered beneficial to human health. Equol is not found in soy, but is converted from daidzein by human gut bacterial flora. Research indicates that between 30-50% of the population is capable of converting daidzein to equol; therefore, there has been recent development of a new equol-ri...

In this study the molecular identification and susceptibility profile of 21 clinical isolates, from a Brazilian hospital, belongs to six different species of Trichosporon were described. Trichosporon asahii was the predominant species and corresponded to 43% of isolates. Eighty three percent of the strains isolated from deep sites were identified as T. asahii, while only 17% belong to a non-T. ...

Trichosporon inkin is one of six pathogenic species of the genus Trichosporon and the etiologic agent of pubic white piedra. Trichosporon species have been reported as a cause of disseminated infections, particularly among immunosuppressed patients. We describe the third reported case of T. inkin peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis and the first to be treated with caspofungin.

Utilization of normal and isoparaffins, separately and in mixtures, by a Trichosporon sp. was investigated. From a mixture of normal paraffins and isoparaffins, the organism consumed straight-chain paraffins, leaving the branched paraffins relatively unchanged. When offered separately, the highest utilization of n-alkanes by the organism was obtained in the range of undecane to octadecane; n-pe...

INTRODUCTION White piedra is a superficial mycosis caused by the genus Trichosporon and characterized by nodules on hair shaft. METHODS The authors report a family referred to as pediculosis. Mycological culture on Mycosel® plus molecular identification was performed to precisely identify the etiology. RESULTS A Trichosporon spp. infection was revealed. The molecular procedure identified th...

Trichosporon species are opportunistic pathogens, associated with a high mortality rate in immunocompromised patients. Oligonucleotide primers were used to amplify a 170-bp fragment of small-subunit ribosomal DNA of all species in the genus Trichosporon by PCR. The primers amplify DNAs of all species in the genus Trichosporon, including six causative agents of trichosporonosis. DNAs of other me...
