BACKGROUND Achilles tendon injuries are one of the most common tendon injuries. Surgical treatment is preferred in young and active patients. Although there are studies which evaluate the repair area with magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography after surgical treatment, there are very few studies which analyzes the elasticity of the tendon by quantitative methods. ARFI (acoustic radiatio...
BACKGROUND The skin score, a subjective assessment of skin elasticity, is widely used in patients with systemic sclerosis. Although this scoring method is regarded as a validated and accepted tool, the interobserver and intraobserver reproducibility is relatively poor. OBJECTIVE Our purpose was to investigate whether the recently developed SEM 474 cutometer, which exerts a controlled vacuum f...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Mechanical behavior of the thromboembolus is one of the key factors that determine the efficacy of thrombectomy devices for revascularization in AIS. We characterized the mechanical properties and composition of thromboemboli from clinical cases and compared them with commonly used EAs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thromboemboli were obtained from patients with AIS by using as...
Sensitivity and elasticity analysis of population projection matrices (PPMs) are established tools in the analysis of structured populations, allowing comparison of the contributions made by different demographic rates to population growth. In some commonly used structures of PPM, however, there are mathematically inevitable patterns in the relative sensitivity and elasticity of certain demogra...
Background As middle-income countries become more affluent, economically sophisticated and productive, health expenditure patterns are likely to change. Other socio-demographic and political changes that accompany rapid economic growth are also likely to influence health spending and financial protection. Methods This study investigates the relationship between growth on per-capita healthcare...
Three a posteriori error estimators for PEERS and BDMS elements in linear elasticity are presented: one residual error estimator and two estimators based on the solution of auxiliary local problems with different boundary conditions. All of them are reliable and efficient with respect to the standard norm and furthermore robust for nearly incompressible materials.
In this paper we obtained mean ergodic theorems for semigroups of bounded linear or continuous affine linear operators on a Banach space under non-power bounded conditions. We then apply them to the wave equation and the system of elasticity to show that the mean of their solutions converges to their equilibriums.
Mathew-Fenn et al. (Reports, 17 October 2008, p. 446) reported unexpected distance fluctuations in short end-labeled DNA constructs and interpreted them as evidence for cooperative DNA stretching modes. We show that when accounting for a subtle linker leverage effect, their data can be understood within standard noncooperative DNA elasticity.
