Platinum clusters supported on KL zeolites were characterized by EPR, HRTEM, and EXAFS. Two kinds of hydrogen chemisorption experiments both result in a saturation value of 2.9 hydrogen atoms per platinum atom, significantly more than that reported so far. A hydrogen coverage-dependent cluster restructuring is suggested.

Conformal deposition of platinum as ultrathin shells on facet-controlled palladium nanocrystals offers a great opportunity to enhance the catalytic performance while reducing its loading. Here we report such a system based on palladium icosahedra. Owing to lateral confinement imposed by twin boundaries and thus vertical relaxation only, the platinum overlayers evolve into a corrugated structure...

We present a novel fabrication route yielding highly active platinum anodes for body implantable glucose micro fuel cells. Such devices harvest electrical energy from glucose and oxygen in body fluids and are currently under development as sustainable power supply for medical implants. The novel anode fabrication process roots on the interdiffusion of an extractable non-noble metal with bulk pl...

Sodium 2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl phosphonate (1) was investigated as a stabilising agent for platinum nanoparticles (Pt-NPs) in aqueous solution. This phosphino phosphonate is known to stabilise rhodium nanoparticles (NPs) in water. Here we report that in the case of Pt-NPs this ligand is indirectly involved in the stabilisation mechanism and the actual stabilisation agent is the platinum comp...

Platinum bis-amidine complexes (both the cis and trans isomers) are stable in acetone and chlorinated solvents but are unstable in protic solvents such as methanol or water. In the latter solvents an initial cis/trans isomerization leads to formation of an equilibrium mixture with a cis/trans ratio of about 1:4; subsequently a dinuclear platinum(III) complex (1) is formed under aerobic conditio...
