Malaria parasites must invade the erythrocytes of its host, to be able to grow and multiply. Having depleted the host cell of its nutrients, the parasites break out to invade new erythrocytes. In this issue of Cell, Yeoh et al. (2007) discover a new organelle, the exoneme, that contains a protease SUB1, which helps the parasite to escape from old erythrocytes and invade new ones.
Submergence stress due to flash floods reduces rice yield drastically in sensitive varieties. Maudamani is a high yielding popular variety but highly susceptible submergence stress. The selection of progenies carrying Sub1 and GW5 (wide-grain) enhanced the tolerance grain theMaudamani by following marker-assisted backcross breeding method. Foreground screening detected 14 BC1F1, 17 BC2F1, 12 BC...
The objectives were to determine the physical and chemical characteristics of different substrates, assess influence with without addition controlled-release fertilizer, on growth morphological quality taperebá (Spondias macrocarpa) seedlings. experimental design adopted was a 2 x 6 factorial scheme, presence absence 8.0 g L-1 encapsulated fertilizer six substrates [Sub1= soil; Sub2= soil + car...
Human positive cofactor 4 (PC4) is a transcriptional coactivator with a highly conserved single-strand DNA (ssDNA) binding domain of unknown function. We identified PC4 as a suppressor of the oxidative mutator phenotype of the Escherichia coli fpg mutY mutant and demonstrate that this suppression requires its ssDNA binding activity. Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants lacking their PC4 ortholog Su...
Rice is the most important food crop. With largest rain-fed lowland area in world, flooding considered as abiotic stress to rice production India. climate change, it expected that frequency and severity of floods will increase over years. These changes have a severe impact on agriculture livelihoods millions farmers flood affected region. There are numerous risk adaptation mitigation options av...
BACKGROUND Malaria remains a major global health concern. The development of novel therapeutic strategies is critical to overcome the selection of multiresistant parasites. The subtilisin-like protease (SUB1) involved in the egress of daughter Plasmodium parasites from infected erythrocytes and in their subsequent invasion into fresh erythrocytes has emerged as an interesting new drug target. ...
