Here, we analyse high-frequency (1 min) surface air temperature, mean sea-level pressure (MSLP), wind speed and direction and cloud-cover data acquired during the solar eclipse of 20 March 2015 from 76 UK Met Office weather stations, and compare the results with those from 30 weather stations in the Faroe Islands and 148 stations in Iceland. There was a statistically significant mean UK tempera...

The glyphs, which are presented in full in Figure S13, not only made predictions of a lunar or solar eclipse in a particular month but also what time of day that eclipse might occur. Eclipse times in the glyphs are given as integers on a 12-hour scale using the ancient Greek number system with the alphabet standing for numbers and an additional symbol ς for 6. The times in the glyphs are modifi...

The careful description of the solar eclipse of A.D. 1567 by Clavius is used to derive limits to the Earth’s rotational clock error (∆T) of between 145 and 165 sec at this date. This result provides an important link between the ∆T curve as deduced from ancient and medieval eclipse observations and that obtained from telescopic data.

THE following case is of interest in view of its association with the recent partial eclipse of the sun. 2695379, Guardsman W.S.S., 1st Btn. Scots Guards, aged 27 years, came to see me on July 12, 1945, complaining of obscured vision in the left eye. ;History.-No family history. Five years ago he was in Mersa Matruh for a year. During this time he was working in an outdoor-cookhouse. ToWards th...

This study reports some preliminary analyses of multichannel lidar measurements taken in Rome Tor Vergata (Italy) during the 20th March 2015 partial solar eclipse. The objective is assessing the capability of the instrument to document the effect of the eclipse in the lower troposphere, with a particular emphasis on the information content at relatively small temporal and spatial scales.

On 1 November 1948 the Radio Astronomy Group within the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Division of Radiophysics observed a partial solar eclipse on a range of radio frequencies at three different sites within Australia. These observations helped establish Australia’s reputation as a leader in solar radio astronomy. A second partial eclipse occurred on 22 October ...

A search for possible radiative decays of solar neutrinos with emission of photons in the visible range may be performed during total solar eclipses. We discuss some results obtained from the digitized images recorded during the August 11, 1999 total solar eclipse in Romania, and report on the observations made in June 21, 2001, in Zambia.

Various solar broadband models have been developed in the last half of the 20th century. The driving demand has been the estimation of available solar energy at different locations on earth for various applications. The motivation for such developments, though, has been the ample lack of solar radiation measurements at global scale. Therefore, the main goal of such codes is to generate artifici...
