The exogenous nitric oxide donor, sodium nitroprusside, evaluated the recombinogenic potential of nitric oxide. Drug inhibited mycelial growth and conidiation in A757 Aspergillus nidulans master strain. Two heterozygous diploid strains, one wild (uvsH//uvsH) and the other defective to DNA repair (uvsH//uvsH) were used for recombinagenesis tests. Sodium nitroprusside recombinogenic effect was ev...
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sodium nitroprusside-induced relaxation, inhibition of the sodium-potassium pump, and cyclic guanosine monophosphate. Exposure of rat thoracic aorta to ouabain, or potassium- or magnesium-free Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate solution, procedures which presumably inhibit the sodium-potassium pump, or to potassium chloride or tetraeth...
the effect of nucleus tractus solitarius nitric oxidergic neurons on blood pressure in diabetic rats
it has been shown that nitric oxide is synthesized in the central nervous system as well as in vascular endothelial cells. recently, it was reported that nitric oxide was involved in central cardiovascular regulation, baroreflex modulation, and involved in a reciprocal release with excitatory amino acids in the nucleus tractus solitarii of rats. the purpose of the present study was to investiga...
Sodium nitroprusside is an excellent agent for lowering blood pressure in hypertensive emergencies, for producing controlled hypotension during anesthesia, and for treating acute myocardial infarction and chronic heart failure. Toxic effects of this drug have been reported and above-normal cyanide and thiocyanate concentrations have been observed in the blood of a small proportion of subjects r...
Sodium nitroprusside is a valuable vasodilator, but its use has been curtailed because of numerous reports that, in the presence of blood, nitroprusside decomposes with release of toxic cyanide. We have examined the release of cyanide in terms of the known chemistry of nitroprusside and suggest that photochemical decomposition of nitroprusside and (or) its metabolism in vivo invalidates the ana...
Verapamil and sodium nitroprusside induce a dose dependent dilatation in the forearm arterial bed and preconstricted dorsal hand vein in man. Verapamil is about twenty times more effective in dilating arterioles than veins; sodium nitroprusside is about ten times more effective in veins than arterioles. These differences can be related to functional differences between the two types of vessel.
