The aim of the present study is to study the effects of adding  diopside (CaMgSi2O6) as well as silica sulfuric acid nanoparticles to ceramic part of glass ionomer cement (GIC) in order to improve its mechanical properties. To do this, firstly, diopside (DIO) nanoparticles with chemical formula of CaMgSi2O6 were synthesized using sol-gel process and then, the structural and morphological p...

Ceramic micro-stereolithography (mSL) was recently introduced in the fabrication of complex 3D ceramic microstructures. Light scattering is found as an important factor in the mSL of ceramics. In this work, the Monte Carlo ray tracing method is employed to investigate the in¯uences of the important materials properties on the scattering during the ceramic mSL. It is found that the scattering is...

BACKGROUND Increased pulmonary epithelial permeability evaluated by the rate of clearance from lung to blood of the radioaerosol solute technetium-99m labelled diethylenetriamine pentaacetate (99mTc-DTPA) has been reported in smokers and in workers exposed to silica dust. A study was carried out to determine whether there are additive effects of cigarette smoke and exposure to silica dust on cl...

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different ceramic surface treatments after machining grinding on the biaxial flexural strength (BFS) of machinable dental ceramics with different crystalline phases. MATERIALS AND METHODS Disk-shape specimens (10mm in diameter and 1.3mm in thickness) of machinable ceramic cores (two silica-based and one zirconia-based ceramics) were prepar...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether ceramic workers exposed to silica experience an excess of end stage renal disease. METHODS On the basis of a health surveillance programme, a cohort of 2980 male ceramic workers has been enrolled during the period 1974-91 in Civitacastellana, Lazio, Italy. For each worker, employment history, smoking data, and x ray film readings were available. The vital status...

A thermal and hydrothermal stable mesoporous ceramic acid (mCA) was synthesized by uniform coating of a WZrO(x) layer onto the internal surface of extra-large mesoporous silica (EP-FDU-12). Its ordered mesoporous structure and strong Brönsted acid sites display excellent thermal (1000 °C, air, 5 h) and hydrothermal (water steam, 300 °C, 24 h) stability.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects of different surface pretreatment techniques on the surface roughness and shear bond strength of a new self-adhering flowable composite resin for use with lithium disilicate-reinforced CAD/CAM ceramic material. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of one hundred thirty lithium disilicate CAD/CAM ceramic plates with dimensions ...

A 62-year-old Japanese 'kawara' (ceramic roof tile) craftsman presented with acute kidney injury and haemoptysis. This case met the systemic lupus erythematosus and microscopic polyangiitis criteria, with high titres of myeloperoxidase-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (570 EU). Results showed the presence of antinuclear antibody at a high titre (1:2560), but detection of rheumatoid factor, a...

A water cooling solid breeder blanket is a prime candidate of the blanket of the fusion reactor in Japan. In this case, the blanket tritium recovery system will be composed of three processes: tritium recovery from the helium sweep gas as hydrogen, that as water vapor and tritium recovery from the coolant water. For these processes, the present authors have proposed a set of advanced systems, a...
