We review recent advances in the suppression of the slugging phenomenon by model-based control. We focus on three aspects of recent contributions: models, observers and control laws. For each category, we evaluate and compare existing solutions, and propose directions for improvement.
In pipeline-riser systems, pressure fluctuations which result from the formation of large liquid slugs and gas surges due to operational changes or low mass flow rate from production wells and the profile of pipeline-riser systems often lead to trips at the inlet of the separator; and thereby, the problem causes a a loss of the production. In this study, on a sample deep-water oil field off the ...
In this paper, we provide a literature review of modern remote laboratories. According to this state-of-theart, we explain why remote laboratories are at a technological crossroad, whereas they were slugging for a decade. From various observations based on our review, we try to identify possible evolutions for the next generation of remote laboratories.
A periodic pigging operation performed to clean off sediment and provide operators with detailed health information for a pipeline is mandatorily required. The research on pigging-induced issues the steel catenary riser (SCR), one of key parts in offshore hydrocarbon recovery pipelines between floating production system seabed, has been scarce until now. As result, there an urgent need theories...
In typical refrigerant compressors, peak cylind er pressures under liquid slugging conditions are as high as 10 times the peak pressures during the normal operation. In this paper we model this phenomenon by considering the compression process with a separated gas and liquid media in the cylinder. Two cases of this model for various liquid fractions are simulat ed. Even though time histories co...
We describe experimental observations of slugging bed dynamics with passive acoustic sensors. Our results indicate that acoustic signals contain both similar and complementary information relative to dynamic pressure signals. We find that selective preprocessing of acoustic signals is a key step in separating information about microscale and macroscale processes. With such preprocessing, both l...
