Stochastic activity networks (SANs) are a stochastic generalization of Petri nets. The original definition of SANs has been used as a modeling formalism in several well-known and powerful modeling tools. SANs have been used to evaluate a wide range of systems, mainly for dependability and performability evaluation purposes. SAN models have not been considered in the definition of the Petri net ...

We prove that a morphism h over a two-letter alphabet {a, b} is overlap-free, i.e., maps overlap-free words into overlap-free words, iff the word h(abbabaab) is overlap-free. As a consequence, we obtain a simple proof of the fact that the only infinite overlap-free words that can be obtained by iterating a morphism are the Thue-Morse sequence and its opposite. A domain constructor that generalizes the product is de ned. It is shown that with this constructor exactly the prime-algebraic coherent Scott-domains and the empty set can be generated from two-chains and boolean at domains. 3 List of Symbols I am identifying the symbols by the corresponding Latex(+Amssymb)-symbols. The recent advent of human computation — employing groups of non-experts to solve problems — has motivated study of a question in mechanism design: How do we elicit useful information when we are unable to verify reports? Existing methods, such as peer prediction and Bayesian truth serum, require assumptions either on the mechanism’s knowledge about the participants or on the information struct...

Bainite transformation behavior was monitored using simultaneous measurements of dilatometry and small angle neutron scattering (SANS). The volume fraction of bainitic ferrite was estimated from the SANS intensity, showing good agreement with the results of the dilatometry measurements. We propose a more advanced monitoring technique combining dilatometry, SANS and neutron diffraction.

Basis and limitations of singularity theorems for Gravity are examined. As singularity is a critical situation in course of time, study of time paths, in full generality of Equivalence principle, provides two mechanisms to prevent singularity. Resolution of singular Time translation generators into space of its orbits, and essential higher dimensions for Relativistic particle interactions has f...

BACKGROUND The Usher syndrome (USH) is the most frequent deaf-blindness hereditary disease in humans. Deafness is attributed to the disorganization of stereocilia in the inner ear. USH1, the most severe subtype, is associated with mutations in genes encoding myosin VIIa, harmonin, cadherin 23, protocadherin 15, and sans. Myosin VIIa, harmonin, cadherin 23, and protocadherin 15 physically intera...
