This article describes the theory and application of high dynamic range imaging (HDRI). HDRI is a recent technology allowing for capturing images with a much extended dynamic range whose values represent real-world luminance rather than just arbitrary pixel values. This article lays out the steps necessary to create HDR images, and highlights recent developments in the technology and its applic...

Range sensors are devices that capture the threedimensional (3-D) structure of the world from the viewpoint of the sensor, usually measuring the depth to the nearest surfaces. These measurements could be at a single point, across a scanning plane, or a full image with depth measurements at every point. The benefits of this range data is that a robot can be reasonably certain where the real worl...

High dynamic range (HDR) displays are becoming more common, which has given rise to a number of reverse tone mapping techniques. The goal of these techniques is to expand the dynamic range of all the existing low dynamic range content to t that of these displays. Most of the reverse tone mapping operators, however, fail to o er a good solution in cases where the input images contain large satur...

We present new general techniques for static orthogonal range searching problems in two and higher dimensions. For the general range reporting problem in , we achieve query time using space , where denotes the number of stored points and the number of points to be reported. For the range reporting problem on an ! " grid, we achieve query time # $ % & using space ' ( . For the two-dimensional se...

In this paper we model the process of temporal adaptation of the human visual system to varying luminance conditions. An eye tracker is used to capture the location of an observer’s gaze in a high dynamic range image displayed on the screen. We apply a novel technique of eye tracker data filtering to avoid flickering caused by incorrect gaze estimation. Temporary adaptation luminance is then de...

We demonstrate high dynamic range (HDR) imaging with the Plenoptic 2.0 camera. Multiple exposure capture is achieved with a single shot using microimages created by microlens array that has an interleaved set of different apertures. © 2009 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (040.1490) Cameras, 110.5200 Photography.

The main results of this paper are generalizations of classical results from the numerical range to the block numerical range. A different and simpler proof for the Perron-Frobenius theory on the block numerical range of an irreducible nonnegative matrix is given. In addition, the Wielandt's lemma and the Ky Fan's theorem on the block numerical range are extended.

A method for capturing high intensity dynamic range scenes with a low dynamic range camera consists in taking a series of images with di erent exposure settings and combining these into a single high dynamic range image. The combined image values are found by weighted averaging of values from the di erently exposed images on a per-pixel basis. This paper reviews existing weighting schemes and c...
