The focus of this conceptual article is to identify, characterise and qualitatively evaluate measures for increasing the utilisation of loading space in intermodal road-rail freight line trains. These trains operate like intercity passenger trains with short transhipment stops along rail corridors aiming at comparatively small and short flows. The measures include adapting the train capacity, t...

Four power-rail electrostatic-discharge (ESD) clamp circuits with different ESD-transient detection circuits have been fabricated in a 0.18-μm CMOS process to investigate their susceptibility against electrical fast-transient (EFT) tests. Under EFT tests, where the integrated circuits in a microelectronic system have been powered up, the feedback loop used in the power-rail ESD clamp circuits m...

Four power-rail electrostatic-discharge (ESD) clamp 4 circuits with different ESD-transient detection circuits have been 5 fabricated in a 0.18-μm CMOS process to investigate their sus6 ceptibility against electrical fast-transient (EFT) tests. Under EFT AQ1 7 tests, where the integrated circuits in a microelectronic system 8 have been powered up, the feedback loop used in the power-rail 9 ESD ...

In the face of renewed interest in High-Speed Rail (HSR) projects, Ohio is one of several states seeking federal funding to relieve pressure on aging, overburdened highway infrastructure by constructing passenger rail routes between major cities. This paper evaluates the creation of a new rail route in Ohio’s 3-C Corridor utilizing GIS. The authors consider two primary cost factors in construct...

Over 25 billion dollars were spent between 1970 and 2000 in fourteen major cities in the United States on the construction of new rail transit lines. This massive investment in rail transit construction and expansion allows me to study the consequences of local public goods improvements for communities nearby new stations. This paper uses a fourteen city census tract level panel data set coveri...

As the demand for rail travel grows amongst the travelling public, capacity on the largely Victorian infrastructure is becoming an important issue. High construction costs and the need for environmental responsibility mean that simply building more lines is not necessarily a viable option, and therefore the rail industry is beginning to look for ways in which their current assets can be used mo...

Recent in situ observations during Critical Ionization Velocity (CIV) experiments under the CRIT project produced puzzling results, apparently at odds with current ClV theories. It is shown that incorporation in the theory of lower hybrid wave (LHW) instabilities of strong turbulence and finite size effects results in reconciliation of the theory with the observations.
