Plasma concentrations of gastrin, somatostatin, neurotensin, and enteroglucagon were measured by radioimmunoassay in normal 30and 45-day-old neonates and age-matched infants with confirmed idiopathic hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Plasma gastrin and somatostatin concentrations were similar in both groups, whereas neurotensin and enteroglucagon were significantly lower in the pyloric stenosis gr...

Gastric biopsies from 35 infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis have been assessed for histological features of gastritis. No erosions were found, and there was no excess cellular infiltration of the lamina propria compared with a control group. Fresh haemorrhage into the lamina propria was frequent in both pyloric stenosis and control sections.

We report a case of recurrent gastritis with pyloric stenosis and cholangitis due to a rare variation in bile duct anatomy. A 72-year-old female patient showed recurrent gastral ulcers and biliary colic with cholangitis caused by gallstones in the main bile duct with an ectopic orifice in the prepyloric region and concurrent inflammatory pyloric stenosis. After temporarily successful endoscopic...

Twenty-three consecutive patients with duodenal ulceration complicated by pyloric stenosis who came under the care of one surgeon were treated by highly selective vagotomy (HSV) combined with digital dilatation of the stenosis through a gastrotomy. No form of drainage procedure was used. Thus the antral "mill" and the pyloric sphineter were left intact. Since the stenosis is usually distal to ...

Paterson (1937), for example, merely states that 'resort to x-rays settles the diagnosis definitely ' without giving any idea of the special features which are of diagnostic importance. Pearson and Wyllie (1935) can also be classed with those who believe that radiology is of considerable value in the diagnosis of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, since they write that by its use 'pyloric stenosis,...
