A 69-year-old patient presented with a tender, thickly crusted skin lesion of 1 week's duration. A bacterial culture swab taken from the underlying granular tissue yielded a pure isolate of a Gram-negative coccobacillus, presumptively identified as a novel Francisella species via 16S rRNA and multilocus gene sequence analysis.

The isolation of beta haemolytic streptococci was compared using Columbia sheep blood agar with and without gentamicin in a final concentration of 5.5 micrograms per ml. The inclusion of gentamicin gave greatly improved results whenever the isolation of this organism in pure culture was complicated by overgrowth with Gram-negative bacilli or staphylococci.

Five cases of peritonitis occurred during continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis in which unusual yellow pigmented Gram negative bacteria were isolated in pure culture. Four of these isolates were identified as the so called "Agrobacterium yellow group." The remaining isolate was identified as Pseudomonas paucimobilis, an organism closely related to the Agrobacterium yellow group.
