We present Provenance-To-Use (PTU), a tool that minimizes computation time during repeatability testing. Authors can use PTU to build a package that includes their software program and a provenance trace of an initial reference execution. Testers can select a subset of the package’s processes for a partial deterministic replay—based, for example, on their compute, memory and I/O utilization as ...

The survival of Buffalo rats brearing Morris Hepatoma 7800 was increased significantly (23 to 31%) after induction of hypothyroidism by propylthiouracil (PTU) (0.1% in Purina rat chow) or 131I. The concentration of PTU used was in the optimal range as 0.03% PTU was less effective than 0.1%, while 0.4% PTU appeared to be toxic. Exogenous thyroxine (8 microgram/kg body weight) reversed the effect...

OBJECTIVE To report the first case of concomitant drug- and infection-induced antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) in a patient treated with propylthiouracil (PTU) and suffering from tuberculosis. PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION A 28-year-old woman with PTU-treated hyperthyroidism presented with fever, purpura, pulmonary cavitations and ANCA to myeloperoxidas...

Graves’ disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism during pregnancy. Propylthiouracil (PTU) is the treatment of choice due to its relative safety during pregnancy compared to methimazole. However, rarely, PTU causes serious complications like hepatitis. We report a case of hepatitis possibly related to PTU during pregnancy complicated by thyrotoxicosis.

Propylthiouracil (PTU) is commonly used to treat hyperthyroidism. However, it is also associated with a number of adverse events. In particular, pulmonary complications, although rare, can be serious. Therefore, early detection is paramount. We herein describe a first case of PTU-induced bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) pathologically confirmed on a surgical lung biopsy. The...

BACKGROUND Renal ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major problem in renal transplantation, which occurs during the process of organ retrieval and storage, and is closely associated with acute rejection episodes and late allograft failure. Recent studies have revealed a new phenomenon called "chemical preconditioning" that can induce tolerance against the ischemic stress via a variety of pr...

Taste transduction molecules, such as Galpha(gust), and taste receptor families for bitter [taste receptor type 2 (T2R)], sweet, and umami, have previously been identified in taste buds and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract; however, their physiological functions in GI tissues are still unclear. Here, we investigated the physiological function and expression of T2R in human and rat large intestin...

715 days after potential problems related to PTU use in children were presented in a debate in front of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES), the US Food and Drug Administration issued a "black-box" warning about the hepatotoxicity risk of the antithyroid drug propylthiouracil (PTU). This safety advisory followed the collective actions of academic societies, medical publishers...

OBJECTIVE(S) The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of subacute administration of propylthiouracil (PTU) on gentamicin (GM)-induced nephrotoxicity in male rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 experimental groups as follow: (1) CONTROL GROUP: isotonic saline (1 ml/kg, IP. for 18 d), (2) GM group: 100 mg/kg, IP for 8 d, (3) PTU group: PTU (10 mg/kg, IP for ...

INTRODUCTION Hyperthyroidism in pregnancy is a serious condition and its management is complex. Whilst carbimazole/methimazole (CBZ/MMI) and propylthiouracil (PTU) have similar efficacies in controlling hyperthyroidism, their risk of side effects such as major congenital abnormalities and hepatotoxicity are different. METHODS Various combinations of the terms 'anti-thyroid drugs', 'thionamide...
