A novel polyomavirus was identified in a fatally diseased Gouldian finch (Erythrura gouldiae). The new polyomavirus, strain VL 1209, was detected using a broad-spectrum nested PCR.

We report here the full-length genome sequence of a novel chimpanzee polyomavirus. Viral sequences were recovered from colon, bladder, and ureter tissue from a western common chimpanzee. The virus is genetically closely related to the human BK polyomavirus.

Vitamin A (retinoic acid, 10(-6) M) treatment of confluent mouse embryo cells for only 7 h resulted in optimal inhibition of Polyomavirus replication. Depending upon the input multiplicity of virus, one could wait until between 12 and 18 h postinfection to add vitamin A and still observe maximal inhibition of virus yields. Taken together, and assuming the same kinetics before and after virus in...

The authors report two cases of polyomavirus infection in renal allograft recipients. In the first case, a stable patient presented with deterioration of renal function, worsening hypertension and weight gain following removal of ureteral stent placed routinely at the time of surgery. Ultrasound examination and radiology studies revealed hydronephrosis due to ureteral stenosis. A new ureteral s...

Polyomaviruses are a family of DNA tumor viruses that are known to infect mammals and birds. To investigate the deeper evolutionary history of the family, we used a combination of viral metagenomics, bioinformatics, and structural modeling approaches to identify and characterize polyomavirus sequences associated with fish and arthropods. Analyses drawing upon the divergent new sequences indicat...

To the Editor—We read with interest the article recently published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases by Sharp et al. [1], who investigated whether the newly discovered KI, WU, and Merkel cell poly-omaviruses could persist and reactivate in immunodeficient patients. To this aim, the authors screened for the presence of ge-nomic sequences of KI, WU, and Merkel cell polyomaviruses, in addition...

conclusions the findings of this study are consistent with the hypothesis that local, systemic, or tumor-induced immunosuppression may allow the mcpyv to initiate skin aggressive cancer. it is necessary to maintain regular check over patients taking immunosuppressive medications for mcpyv infection. since there is not any information about detection and molecular biology analysis of mcpyv among...

The Polyomaviridae is a family of small, non-enveloped viruses with circular dsDNA genomes of approximately 5 kbp. The family includes four genera whose members have restricted host range, infecting mammals and birds. Polyomavirus genomes have also been detected recently in fish. Merkel cell polyomavirus and raccoon polyomavirus are associated with cancer in their host; other members are human ...

We identified a new polyomavirus in skin lesions from a patient with trichodysplasia spinulosa (TS). Apart from TS being an extremely rare disease, little is known of its epidemiology. On the basis of knowledge regarding other polyomaviruses, we anticipated that infections with trichodysplasia spinulosa-associated polyomavirus (TSV) occur frequently and become symptomatic only in immunocompromi...
