OBJECTIVE To characterise Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates from Singapore. DESIGN Characterisation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates by auxotyping, serological analysis and plasmid profile analysis. SPECIMENS Sixty randomly collected isolates from 41 symptomatic, untreated males and 19 female prostitutes were studied. RESULTS Auxotyping of 25 PPNG and 35 non-PPNG strains showed that the Pro...

conclusions: the combination of plasmid profiling and php techniques revealed the presence of diverse population of vre in sewage treatment plant in tehran. furthermore, the results showed that the php technique is a reliable method in determining the vre clonal diversity. results: all isolates were found to be resistant to erythromycin, ampicillin and ciprofloxacin. the pcr analyses showed tha...

Resistance to different antibiotics was found in 26 of the 30 strains analyzed, more than 70% of the strains analyzed were resistant to carbenicillin and ampicillin and a significant correlation was found between the resistance to both antibiotics. Plasmids were found in 80% of the strains analyzed, and 11 different plasmid profiles were observed. The most common profile obtained had only a 21....

At a hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, three strains of Legionella pneumophila were detectable based on plasmid content, while the isolates collected at another hospital in Halifax had no plasmids. Genomic DNA was digested with BssHII, SalI, and SpeI and subjected to pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). We found no relationship between plasmid profile and PFGE pattern.

conclusions resistance to oxacillin and other antibiotics was high, and most of the isolates were found to be multi-drug resistance (mdr). plasmid analysis of representative s. aureus isolates also demonstrates the presence of a wide range of plasmid sizes, with no consistent relationship between plasmid profiles and resistance phenotypes. regular surveillance of hospital infections and monitor...

Out of 120 fecal samples collected from diarrheic calves at different localities in AL-Qalyoubia Governorate. 43 were positive for Escherichia coli with an incidence of 35.83%.Serogrouping of E.coli isolates recovered 8 belong to different "O" serogroups which were O55, O111, O26, O153, O8, O18, O86, O157, and "5" isolates were untypable. Antibiogram pattern of isolated E.coli serogroups showed...

Campylobacter jejuni strains from 11 outbreaks were characterized by antimicrobial susceptibility, plasmid profile, and serotyping by the methods of Lior et al. and Penner and Hennessy. All 31 strains were susceptible to erythromycin, clindamycin, chloramphenicol, kanamycin, tobramycin, streptomycin, and gentamicin. A total of 21 strains from nine outbreaks were resistant to one or more of the ...

The aim of this study was to characterize 49 Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) isolates from different sources (poultry, human, cow, poultry house environment) in Iran with respect to drug resistance, plasmid profile, and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Antimicrobial susceptibility test to 29 agents found 33 resistance patterns among the isolates. No resistance was observed to danof...

To characterize Shigella clinical strains, we studied 82 Shigella strains recovered from 719 stool samples of patients with bloody diarrhea in Shiraz, Iran, over the period from April to October 2003. Serological assay classified the Shigella isolates as follows: 61 (74.39%) Shigella sonnei isolates, 16 (19.51%) Shigella flexneri isolates, 3 (3.65%) Shigella boydii isolates, and 2 (2.43%) Shige...
