The Stenotrophomonas genus shows great adaptive potential including resistance to multiple antimicrobials, opportunistic pathogenicity, and production of numerous secondary metabolites. Using long-read technology, we report the sequence of a plant-associated Stenotrophomonas strain originating from the citrus phyllosphere that displays a copper resistance phenotype.
Plant cell and tissue cultures can be established routinely under sterile conditions from explants, such as plant leaves, stems, roots, meristems etc for both the ways for multiplication and extraction of secondary metabolites. Strain improvement, methods for the selection of high-producing cell lines, and medium optimizations can lead to an enhancement in secondary metabolite production. Howev...
The virulence genes of Agrobacterium tumefaciens are induced by specific plant phenolic metabolites and sugars (G. A. Cangelosi, R. G. Ankenbauer, and E. W. Nester, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, in press). In this report, monosaccharides, derivatives, and analogs which induce the vir regulon have been identified and the structural requirements for monosaccharide-mediated induction have been deter...
Plants synthesize an enormous variety of metabolites that can be classified into two groups based on their function: primary metabolites, which participate in nutrition and essential metabolic processes within the plant, and secondary metabolites (also referred to as natural products), which influence ecological interactions between plants and their environment (Croteau et al., 2000). Isoprenoi...
In the last five decades study on plant secondary metabolites have been increasing. Higher plants with a wide range of secondary metabolites have been very important in the search of new therapeutic agents. Flavonoids are most widely distributed secondary natural metabolites that found in plants which occuring in free forms or as glycosides with polyphenolic structure. In this study secondary m...

In recent years, metabolism researches using nanomaterials have been focusing on human and animal cells, and therefore very limited data are available about influence of nanomaterials on biosynthesis of secondary metabolites in plant cells. Plants produce different types of secondary metabolites including terpenoids, phenolics, tannins, and alkaloids, which are known to act as vital mediators f...
Vegetables are an important part of the human diet and a major source of biologically active substances such as vitamins, dietary fiber, antioxidants, and cholesterol-lowering compounds. Despite a large amount of information on this topic, the nutritional quality of vegetables has not been defined. Historically, the value of many plant nutrients and health-promoting compounds was discovered by ...
Plant cell culture systems represent a potential renewable source of valuable medicinal compounds, flavors, fragrances, and colorants, which cannot be produced by microbial cells or chemical synthesis. Biotechnological applications of plant cell cultures presents the most updated reviews on current techniques in plant culture in the field. The evolving commercial importance of the secondary met...
