In previous general screening experiments was found a potent spasmolytic effect in guinea-pig ileum promoted by a furanoflavan-type flavonoid 3,4,5,8-tetramethoxy-(6,7,2”,3”)-furanoflavan named diplotropin, obtained from the stem-barks of Lonchocarpus araripensis Benth., which effect is due, in part, to the inhibition of Ca influx through voltage-dependent Ca channels. This study demonstrates f...

1. The aim of this study was the pharmacological characterization of tachykinin NK1 and NK2 receptors mediating contraction in the circular muscle of the guinea-pig ileum and proximal colon. The action of substance P (SP), neurokinin A (NKA) and of the synthetic agonists [Sar9]SP sulphone, [Glp6,Pro9]SP(6-11) (septide) and [beta Ala8]NKA(4-10) was investigated. The affinities of various peptide...

Lactobacillus amylovorus is a common member of the beneficial microbiota present in the pig gastrointestinal tract. Here, we report the genome sequence of the surface layer (S-layer) protein-carrying and potentially probiotic strain L. amylovorus GRL1118, which was isolated from porcine ileum and which shows strong adherence to pig intestinal epithelial cells.

Potent and selective peptidyl blockers of the Shaker-type (Kv1) voltage-gated potassium channels were used to determine the role of these channels in regulating the spontaneous motility of smooth muscle preparations. Margatoxin (MgTX), kaliotoxin, and agitoxin-2 at 1 to 10 nM and agitoxin-1 at 50 to 100 nM induce twitches in guinea pig ileum strips. These twitches are abolished by tetrodotoxin ...

We have previously elucidated the opiate-like action of mitragynine, an active principle isolated from the Thai medicinal plant Mitragyna speciosa. In the present study, effects of the related compound, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl on electrically stimulated contraction in guinea pig ileum and mouse vas deferens, and on its binding affinity in the guinea pig brain membranes were studied. Mitragyni...

BACKGROUND Fumaria parviflora Linn. (Fumariaceae), is a small branched annual herb found in many parts of the world including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. This study was designed to provide pharmacological basis for the medicinal use of Fumaria parviflora in gut motility disorders. METHODS The in-vivo prokinetic and laxative assays were conducted in mice. Isolated intestinal preparations (ileum...

A segment of guinea pig ileum was used to confirm the hypothesis that [6]-gingerol and lafutidine interact with capsaicin-sensitive neurons. Addition of 30 and 100 microM [6]-gingerol (a pungent constituent of ginger) induced contraction of the ileum immediately. Like capsaicin, [6]-gingerol-induced contraction was inhibited by antagonists of the vanilloid receptor (capsazepine and ruthenium re...

Abstract Background The plant Hymenocardia acida (Euphorbiaceae) is utilized as herbal preparation against diarrhoea, dysentery and other diseases. We aimed to determine the antidiarrhoeal potentials of (MEHA) stem bark in vivo vitro. Preliminary phytochemical contents, well acute toxicity effect extract, were investigated based on standard experimental methods. properties MEHA at 150, 300 600 ...

Interaction in free solution of highly purified preparations of human C'1 esterase, C'4, C'2, and C'3, in the presence of Mg(2+), resulted in rapid generation of an activity indistinguishable by biological criteria from anaphylatoxin. The formation of anaphylatoxin was associated with immunoelectrophoretic conversion of C'3 to anodically faster migrating proteins and was unaffected by the prese...

During the investigations of the effect of indoline-derivatives on the smooth muscle have been continued, we have discovered that 1-methyl-5-chloroindoline methylbromide (hereafter referred to as S-6) well contracts the isolated ileum of guinea pig. Thus, the mode of action of S-6 on the guinea pig ileum has been investigated under various con ditions. The aim of this paper is to show that S-6 ...
