In this work we investigated the optical and structural properties of GaAs/GaInP quantum wells (QW) grown by Chemical Beam Epitaxy (CBE). The samples were characterized by photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence excitation (PLE) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Simulations of the quantum well potential profiles, using the Van De Walle-Martin model, supplemented by our experimental ...

We have observed visible photoluminescence (PL) spectra (peak energy: 3.1 eV) of size-controlled silicon (Si) nanoparticles annealed in oxygen gas. The PL peak energy did not depend on the temperature, and the PL lifetime was relatively fast (on the order of nanoseconds). It was inferred that the visible PL was attributed to localized states in the oxidized surfaces of size-controlled Si nanopa...

Two-dimensional Zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanobowl arrays were synthesized via self-assembled monolayer polystyrene sphere template floating on precursor solution surface. A facile approach was proposed to investigate the morphology evolution of nanobowl arrays by post-annealing procedure. Photoluminescence (PL) measurement of as-grown nanoarrays shows that the spectrum mainly includes two parts: a pu...

In this paper, the enhanced photoluminescence from CdS thin film with SiO2 nanopillar array (NPA) was demonstrated. The CdS was prepared using chemical bath deposition in a solution bath containing CdSO4, SC(NH2)2, and NH4OH. The SiO2 NPA was fabricated by the nanosphere lithography (NSL) techniques. The nanopillar is about 50 nm in diameter, and the height is 150 nm. As a result, the sample wi...

We have investigated the Raman scattering and the photoluminescence (PL) of ZnSxTe1−x mixed crystals grown by MBE, covering the entire composition range (0 6 x < 1). The results of Raman studies show that the ZnSxTe1−x mixed crystals display two-mode behaviour. In addition, photoluminescence spectra obtained in backscattering and edge-emission geometries, reflectivity spectra and the temperatur...

We observe localization of excitons in semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes at room temperature using high-resolution near-field photoluminescence (PL) microscopy. Localization is the result of spatially confined exciton energy minima with depths of more than 15 meV connected to lateral energy gradients exceeding 2 meV/nm as evidenced by energy-resolved PL imaging. Simulations of excit...

A facile and one-pot approach to the preparation of gold (Au) and copper (Cu) bimetallic nanoclusters (NCs) is unveiled. AuCu NCs reveal features of orange photoluminescence (PL), reversible pH-dependent PL properties, and efficient catalytic activity for degradation of methylene blue (MB).

A simple approach to prepare carbon quantum dots is presented in this communication by laser rapid passivation of nano carbon particles in ordinary organic solvent. The as-prepared carbon dots exhibited visible, tunable and stable photoluminescence (PL). XPS analysis showed that the increased oxygen concentration might be concerned with the origin of PL.

A photoluminescence (PL)-based oxygen and glucose sensor utilizing inorganic or organic light emitting diode as the light source, and polythiophene: fullerene type bulk-heterojunction devices as photodetectors, for both intensity and decay-time based monitoring of the sensing element's PL. The sensing element is based on the oxygen-sensitive dye Pt-octaethylporphyrin embedded in a polystyrene m...

We report on near-field optical imaging of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), observing photoluminescence (PL) quenching at nanotube ends and defects. The extension of reduced PL reflects the exciton diffusion length of about 100 nm, which can be directly visualized with our technique. Additionally, we model the complete imaging process, including exciton diffusion and tip-induced rate enh...
