Ozone is a crucial air pollutant that damages human health and vegetation. As it formed by the sunlit oxidation of nitrogen oxides volatile organic compounds, current ozone mitigation strategies are primarily focused on summer. By analysing pollution episodes in eastern China, observed daily total oxidants accumulation cool seasons (spring autumn: 60 ppb winter 40 ppb) comparable to measured su...

The fluorescence rise kinetics in saturating light display two well separated com ponents with largely different properties. The rapid rise from F„ to a first intermediate level, I ,, is photochemically controlled, while the following phases leading to a secondary intermediate level, I2, and to a peak level, P , are limited by thermal reactions. Treatm ents which primarily affect components at ...

[1] Isotopic studies indicate that natural perchlorate is produced on Earth in arid environments by the oxidation of chlorine species through pathways involving ozone or its photochemical products. With this analogy, we propose that the arid environment on Mars may have given rise to perchlorate through the action of atmospheric oxidants. A variety of hypothetical pathways can be proposed inclu...

Formaldehyde column density (ΩHCHO) showed a potentially useful correlation with surface ozone during the LISTOS campaign on Long Island Sound and KORUS-AQ in Seoul, South Korea. This builds previous work that identified this relationship from situ aircraft observations similar findings for ground-based airborne remote sensing of ΩHCHO. In region, ΩHCHO exhibited strong temporal (r2 = 0.66) spa...

PURPOSE To compile the safety aspects of the corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) by means of the riboflavin/UVA (370 nm) approach. MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY Analysis of the current treatment protocol with respect to safety during CXL. RESULTS The currently used UVA dose density of 5.4 J/cm(2) and the corresponding irradiance of 3 mW/cm(2) are below the known damage thresholds of UVA for th...

This work focuses on removing hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) found in groundwater polluted with dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) by photo-oxidation hydrogen peroxide or persulfate using LED visible light and ferrioxalate as the catalyst. Single oxidation tests were also performed to evaluate contribution of LED-vis HCHs removal. Results show that it is possible attain degradation up 85% ...

Abstract. Large wildfires influence regional atmospheric composition, but chemical complexity challenges model predictions of downwind impacts. Here, we elucidate key connections within gas-phase photochemistry and assess novel processes via a case study the 2013 California Rim Fire plume. Airborne in situ observations, acquired during NASA Studies Emissions, Atmospheric Composition, Clouds Cli...

We examine factors controlling the photochemical oxidation of SO2 in tropospheric aerosols using a gas-aqueous photochemical model. Over a range of liquid water contents (3x10 -4g H20 m -3 to 9 g H20 m -3) and pH values (0 to 8), we find that H202(aq) and O3(aq) provide the major sinks for SO2 in the aqueous phase when pH is held constant at below 5 and larger than 6, respectively. OH(aq) may b...
