Twenty-two known species of Pseudacteon flies (Diptera: Phoridae) are parasitoids South American fire ants in the Solenopsis saevissima (Smith) complex. Phorid different sizes and with differing activity patterns have been released United States to control two imported ant species—Solenopsis richteri invicta—and their hybrid. Six highly host-specific successfully established at dozens release s...

We report that a stage-specific developmental program, dauer larva formation, is temporally regulated by four heterochronic genes, lin-4, lin-14, lin-28, and lin-29. The effects of mutations in these four genes on dauer larva formation have revealed that they regulate two different processes of dauer larva formation: (1) a decision specifying the larval stage at which dauer larva development in...

In this observation a total of 140 schistosomula of schistosoma mansoni and 36 schistosomula of schistosoma haematobium which were obtained from 36 Laboratory albino mice, each infected with 1000 cercaria were studied. The animals were sacrificed in a certain intervals and the schistosomula from the skin, lung and liver were collected by special technique. The result of this study showed that t...

We report a case of human nasal myiasis caused by flower fly larva in a 14-year-old rural girl in Central Province of Iran. Entomological studies on larva showed the larva as Eristalis tenax which is a rarely cause of nasal myiasis. This is the first reported case of E. tenax larva causing human nasal myiasis in Iran.

The Phoridae is known as 'scuttle flies' because they walk in rapid bursts of movement with short pauses between. In this study, larval locomotive behavior and development was characterized in the phorid, Megaselia scalaris. Comparison was made with the well-characterized fruit fly model, Drosophila melanogaster. Developmentally, the rate of maturation was consistently slower for Megaselia than...

1. The second-stage larva of the plant parasitic nematode Heterodera rostocfaensis shows very little movement while confined to the egg; on the other hand, the larva of the closely related Meloidogyne incognita is very active 2. Using interference microscopy, it is shown that the water content of the Heterodera larva increases immediately it is liberated from the egg while that of the Meloidogy...

This is the first description of larva and puparium of Oplodontha rubrithorax (Macquart, 1838) from the Oriental Region. Larvae were found at a hot spring in North Thailand. The morphological features and cuticular structures of the larva are documented by drawings and SEM micrographs and the main characters are compared with the European O. viridula (Fabricius, 1775), the only described larva ...

During 1997, gross and histopathologic examinations were performed on an adult female raccoon (Procyon lotor) that was live-trapped in Corvallis, Oregon. Multifocal eosinophilic granulomas indicative of neural and visceral larva migrans were observed. However, within these granulomas, the presence of parasitic larva was seen only in the cerebrum. Morphologic characteristics indicated that the n...
