Grapevine trunk diseases (GTD) have a variety of symptoms and causes. The latter include fungal species from the family Diaporthaceae. The aim of our study was to determine Diaporthaceae species present in the woody parts of grapevines sampled from 12 vine-growing coastal and continental areas of Croatia. The fungi were isolated from diseased wood, and cultures analysed for phenotype (morpholog...

We report a case of scleral keratitis caused by Phomopsis phoenicicola. Pterygium surgery was a predisposing factor, and the patient was treated with natamycin and fluconazole eye drops and oral fluconazole. The fungus was identified by sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the fungal ribosomal DNA (rDNA) locus and confirmed on the basis of its typical pycnidia and conidia.

We describe the first identification of Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi causing brown rot on chestnut fruits in Chile, with an incidence 4.8%. Previously, Phomopsis castanea (IMI 278057) was reported as cause disease but a molecular re-identification revealed that it corresponded to G. smithogilvyi. All inoculated isolate RGM 2903 developed symptoms fruits.

A new quinone derivative, named epoxyquinophomopsin (1), was isolated from the EtOAc extract of the fermentation broth culture of an endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. from Morus cathayana. Structure of compound 1 was determined mainly by NMR and mass spectral data. Biogenetically compound 1 can be regarded as a degradative product of the previously reported anthraquinone found in the fungus.

Phomopsis seed decay is one of the most devastating diseases reducing soybean quality worldwide. This disease caused primarily by a seed-borne fungus, longicolla (syn. Diaporthe longicolla). As part genome sequencing project for P. longicolla, we present mitochondrial resource isolate MSPL 10-6, aggressive field isolates. The circular 53,646 bp long with GC content 34.27%, and it encodes 14 com...
