The primary pathological mechanism for paraneoplastic neurological syndromes is believed to be a form of onconeural immunity where the cancer causes a cross-immune reaction with the neurons. In a previous study, using a proteomic approach, we detected an anti-brain-type creatine kinase antibody that was associated with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration. Using immunohistochemistry, we showe...

Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a rare malignant neoplasm of sinonasal tract, derived from olfactory epithelium. Excess production of these su...

An unusual case of the stiffman syndrome, associated with an oat cell carcinoma of the bronchus, is reported. Pathological examination showed that it was due to an encephalomyelitis similar to that seen in paraneoplastic disorders. This suggests that atypical cases of the stiffman syndrome may occasionally be paraneoplastic.

There is a complex bidirectional relationship between rheumatic diseases and cancer. Certain diseases, in particular dermatomyositis, polymyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, sclerosis, on the one hand, are associated with an increased risk of malignant neoplasms against background disease, contributing to cancer due immunological stimulation. On oth...

Paraneoplastic cerebellar ataxia, also known as paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration, is one of the wide array of paraneoplastic neurological syndromes in which neurological symptoms are indirectly caused by an underlying malignancy, most commonly gynecological, breast, or lung cancer or Hodgkin's lymphoma.
