OBJECTIVE To determine whether MPO contributes to oxidative stress and disease activity in RA and whether it produces hypochlorous acid in SF. METHODS Plasma and where possible SF were collected from 77 RA patients while 120 healthy controls supplied plasma only. MPO and protein carbonyls were measured by ELISAs. 3-Chlorotyrosine in proteins and allantoin in plasma were measured by mass spect...

BACKGROUND/AIMS Hyperuricemia has been reported to affect renal hemodynamics in rat models. We evaluate the relationship between serum uric acid and intrarenal hemodynamic parameters in humans, utilizing the plasma clearance of para-aminohippurate (CPAH ) and inulin (Cin). METHODS Renal and glomerular hemodynamics were assessed by simultaneous measurement of CPAH and Cin in 58 subjects. Of th...

Rheumatic disorders are viewed as a public health issue because they affect thousands of individuals around the world and increase care expenses. Numerous biochemical markers may play role in pathophysiology etiology rheumatoid arthritis (RA) due to its local well systemic inflammatory effects. Rheumatoid factors (RF) can be found variety people, including young, healthy elderly, people ...

Phenylalanine Ammonia-Lyase, Protein Metabolism, Regulation, /ra/js-Cinnamic Acid, Daucus carota, Suspension Culture In vivo and in vitro experiments were performed in order to study the regulatory role of transcinnamic acid and its hydroxylated derivatives (p-coumaric acid, caffeic acid) on the deamina tion of phenylalanine catalyzed by PAL (EC 4.3.1.5). 7>arts-cinnamic acid inhibits growth a...

Objective(s):Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from Wharton’s jelly (WJ-MSCs) are now much more appealing for cell-based infertility therapy. Hence, WJ-MSCs differentiation toward germ layer cells for cell therapy purposes is currently under intensive study. Materials and Methods: MSCs were isolated from human Wharton’s jelly and treated with BMP4, retinoic acid (RA) or co-cultured on huma...

Rosmarinic acid (RA) reduced the mortality of mice infected with Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). Significant decreases in viral loads (P < 0.001) and proinflammatory cytokine levels (P < 0.001) were observed in JEV-infected animals treated with RA compared to levels in infected mice without treatment, at 8 to 9 days postinfection.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen capable of forming a biofilm under physiological conditions that contributes to its persistence despite long-term treatment with antibiotics. Here, we report that pathogenic P. aeruginosa strains PAO1 and PA14 are capable of infecting the roots of Arabidopsis and sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum), in vitro and in the soil, and are capable o...

Diabetes increases susceptibility to chronic ulceration. The cause of chronic wound formation in diabetic individuals is multifactorial but may be accelerated by changes in the structure and function of the skin secondary to impaired fibroblast proliferation, decreased collagen synthesis, and increased matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression. This study explored cellular and biochemical chang...

Folksonomy expands the collaborative process by allowing contributors to index content. It rests on three powerful properties: the absence of a prior taxonomy, multiindexation and the absence of thesaurus. It concerns a more exploratory search than an entry in a search engine. Its original relationship-based structure (the three-way relationship between users, content and tags) means that folks...

OBJECTIVE Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an important joint marker and the substrate for hyaluronidase (HAase). Synovial fluid (SF) and serum HAase were measured to investigate the potential use of HAase as a joint marker in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA) patients. METHODS The subjects were 39 patients with RA and 42 patients with OA. HAase activity was measured by zymography and ...
