Ceria and nickel-doped ceria necklace-like nanowires were synthesized by a facile, surfactant free method, through an unconventional assembly route. Homogeneous doping of lower-valent cations introduces elastic strain, resulting in extrinsic surface defects and higher catalytic performance in CO oxidization.

A novel TiO(2) nano-thorn membrane was assembled for concurrent filtration and photocatalytic oxidization to remove pollutants in water. This membrane has hierarchical porous and multifunctional properties, which provide these advantages: (1) producing water with high quality; (2) increasing water flux; and (3) eliminating membrane fouling.

The formal potential of c-type cytochromes expressed in the bacterial outer membrane was dependent on their redox state functioning in mediating extracellular electron transfer. Its negative (positive) shifting accompanying with the oxidization (reduction) of c-type cytochromes can serve to stabilize the redox states in a feedback manner.

The Mn-oxide/Nb:SrTiO3 photoelectrode for oxygen evolution reaction was investigated by in situ Mn K-edge XAFS spectroscopy under UV irradiation. The oxidization of the Mn oxide was observed via photoexcited carrier transfer, which results in the positive potential shift of the Mn oxide cocatalyst toward oxygen evolution reaction.
