Reactive proliferations of the gingiva comprise lesions such as pyogenic granuloma (PG), inflammatory fibroepithelial hyperplasia (IFH), peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF), and peripheral giant cell lesion. Osteopontin (OPN) has a dual role, it promotes mineralization when it is bound to solid substrate, and on the other hand, it inhibits mineralization when it is seen in association with solut...
Central Ossifying Fibroma in mandible: A Case Report with aggrasive behavior review of differential dragwsis
Peripheral ossifying fibroma is a common solitary gingival overgrowth thought to arise from the gingival corium, periosteum or periodontal ligament. Ossifying fibroma has the propensity to occur in cranial bones, but the peripheral variety shows a close relationship with the periodontal ligament and adjacent alveolar bone. It is more commonly seen in women (predilection of 3:1) and usually at a...
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To study the clinical, histological features of peripheral and central ossifying fibromas and also to compare between them. MATERIALS AND METHODS The sample comprised a total 50 cases of ossifying fibromas [25 central ossifying fibromas (COF) and 25 peripheral ossifying fibromas (POF)] inclusive of cemento-ossifying fibromas. RESULTS The mean age is 28.2 years in POF and...
cone beam computed tomography is a useful technique for imaging the craniofacial lesions. it produces more realistic images that facilitate interpretation. juvenile ossifying fibroma (jof) is a rare and benign fibro-osseous neoplasm that arises within the craniofacial bones, especially in the maxilla. mandibular lesions can be seen in 10% of the cases.in both jaws, it has a predilection for the...
Introduction: Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous maxillary tumor belonging to the same category as fibrous dysplasia and cement-ossifying dysplasia. The aim of present study was report a case of cement-ossifying mandibular fibroma and offers a review of the literature on this disorder. Case report: A 41-year-old woman presented for conventional dental treatment. A control panor...
BACKGROUND The purpose of this work was to perform a systematic review regarding ossifying fibroma and its multiple variants of the paranasal sinuses, and to identify any clinical differences between the multiple variants. METHODS A search of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (PubMed) database was performed for the non–Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) search term “ossifying fibroma.” The bi...
central cementifying fibroma is a bony tumor, which is believed to be derived from the cells of the periodontal ligament. central cemento‑ossifying fibroma behaves like, a benign bone neoplasm. this bone tumor consists of highly cellular, fibrous tissue that contains varying amounts of calcified tissue resembling bone, cementum, or both. central cemento‑ossifying fibromas of the mandible are co...
The present case is of peripheral ossifying fibroma in the mandibular anterior gingiva of a 30 year old female. The lesion was asymptomatic, reddish, firm and penduclated. The lesion was surgically excised and at follow up of 1 year showed no recurrence. Histological assesment showed connective tissue stroma with osseous like calcification. Suggestive of peripheral ossifying fibroma.
A 1-year-old male thoroughbred racehorse experienced swelling of the left upper lip. The swelling was attributable to enlargement around the incisive bone of the interdental space posterior to the third incisor in the left maxilla. Even after two operations to reduce the bulk of the mass, it continued to increase in size. Dyspnea caused by stenosis of the nasal cavity forced us to perform eutha...
