CH(2)OH-terminated regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was chemically grafted onto carboxylic groups of graphene oxide (GO) via esterification reaction. The resultant P3HT-grafted GO sheets (G-P3HT) are soluble in common organic solvents, facilitating the structure/property characterization and the device fabrication by solution processing. The covalent linkage and the strong electronic ...
Various detergents can be used to dissolve phospholipids, resulting in very narrow 31PNMR resonances. The resonances are well resolved, allowing identification and quantitative analysis of phospholipids in a mixture. The chemical shift depends strongly on pH, reflecting changes in the state of ionization of the phospholipid headgroup moieties. Samples of phospholipids dissolved in aqueous deter...
The development of efficient sensors for the determination of the water content in organic solvents is highly desirable for a number of chemical industries. Presented herein is a Mg(2+) metal-organic framework (MOF), which exhibits the remarkable capability to rapidly detect traces of water (0.05-5 % v/v) in various organic solvents through an unusual turn-on luminescence sensing mechanism. The...
High-quality N-doped graphene quantum sheets are successfully fabricated from as-grown monolayer graphene on Cu using nitrogen plasma, which can be transferred as a film-like layer or easily dispersed in an organic solvent for further optoelectronic or photoelectrochemical applications.
Corynebacterial recipient cells exposed to heat, organic solvents, pH shifts, or detergents show an increased fertility in subsequent interspecific matings with Escherichia coli. This effect is independent of de novo protein biosynthesis and seems to be due to a direct inactivation of a restriction system active against foreign DNA that enters the cell by IncP-mediated conjugation.

Two thioxanthone-based fluorescent probes exhibited prominent solvatofluorochromism, and they were further found to be useful as fluorescence indicators for the qualitative and quantitative detection of low-level water content in various solvent media.
The lipophilic nucleoside, G 1, extracts Pb(2+) picrate from water into organic solvents to give structures based on the hydrogen-bonded G-quartet. Crystal structures indicate important differences between (G 1)(8)-Pb(2+) and (G 1)(8)-K(+). The divalent Pb(2+) templates a smaller G(8) cage than does K(+), as judged by the M-O6 bond length, O6-O6 diagonal distance, and inter-tetramer separation....
Search for new industrial enzymes having novel properties continues to be a desirable pursuit in enzyme research. The halophilic organisms inhabiting under saline/ hypersaline conditions are considered as promising source of useful enzymes. Their enzymes are structurally adapted to perform efficient catalysis under saline environment wherein n0n-halophilic enzymes often lose their structure and...
We report a facile method for the production of graphene sheets through the liquid-phase exfoliation of graphite in organic solvents with addition of NaOH. NaOH was found to be intercalated into the interplanar spaces of graphite, and greatly improves exfoliation efficiency up to 20 times.
