Neospora caninum is a protozoan parasite causing bovine abortion all over the world. The aim of this study was to investigate how common N. caninum infection is among dairy herds in the Czech Republic. Bulk milk samples were collected from 495 dairy herds and analysed for the presence of specific antibodies by a commercial N. caninum iscom ELISA. Five out of 495 dairy herds (1.01%) had percenta...

Neospora caninum has been detected in several wild mammalian species, i.e., deer, coyotes, dingoes, and foxes. Farm-bred foxes were rarely reported to be affected by the parasite. In this study, we detected for the first time the infection of N.caninum in farm-bred young blue foxes (Alopex lagopus) in China. Neospora-like tissue cysts were observed in brains and kidneys of the foxes by histopat...

The present study showed that incorporation of CpG adjuvant into plasmid DNA coding for NcGRA7 antigen resulted in a twofold increase in the level of protection against congenital transfer of Neospora caninum. The level of protection was considerably higher than that observed in pups born from dams immunized with nonrecombinant plasmid.

Neospora caninum is a worldwide distributed pathogen which causes abortion in cattle leading to economic loss in the cattle industry. The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of N. caninum antibodies in the native cattle slaughtered in various areas of Kurdistan province (western Iran) from September 2010 to September 2011. Serum samples from 368 cattle slaughtered in seven sla...

Neospora caninum is an important cause of abortion in cattle, and dogs are its only known definitive host. Its seroprevalence among domestic urban and rural dogs and feral raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides koreensis) in Korea was studied by indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) and by the neospora agglutination test (NAT), respectively. Antibodies to N. caninum were found in 8.3% of ur...

Abortion in dairy cattle is generally defined as the loss of fetus on days 47-265 of pregnancy and can significantly reduce the income and capital gain of farmers and producers. Therefore, sufficient economical support and preventive measurements are essential for this issue. In this study, genetic materials were extracted from the abomasum rennet, as well as homogenous preparations of brain, k...

To determine the seroprevalence of anti-Neospora caninum and anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies indogs in Iran and to investigate related risk factors to the infection, a study was conducted in Chaharmahal vaBakhtiari, Isfahan and Khoozestan provinces, locate in west central parts of Iran. For this, 548 serum samples were collected from dogs during an 18 month period from July 2007 to February 2...

Here, we studied the potential of Neospora caninum tachyzoites to infect heifers when administered in utero by artificial insemination via contaminated semen. Eighteen primiparous cyclic heifers were hormonally synchronized and artificially inseminated. Nine of them, which were inseminated with semen containing 10(7) live N. caninum NC-1 isolate-tachyzoites, reacted with seroconversion and a sp...

Neosporosis is caused by the intracellular protozoan parasite Neospora caninum. This major disease-causing pathogen is responsible for inducing abortion in cattle, and these adverse events occur sporadically all over the world, including Japan. Currently, there are no vaccines on the market against infection with N. caninum. Because live and attenuated vaccines against N. caninum have had safet...
