Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is essential for maintenance of the glomerular capillary network. The present study investigated the effects of VEGF in rats with progressive crescentic glomerulonephritis (GN). Necrotizing and crescentic GN was induced in rats by injection of anti-rat glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibody. The alterations of glomerular capillaries and glomerular ...

Introduction: Necrotizing soft tissue infections are one of the most dreaded infections in human and result in a very high rate of mortality. The treatment of these infections must be very aggressive and consists of radical debridement of all necrotic tissue accompanied by appropriate antibiotics. Materials and methods: This study was undertaken to assess the mortality rate, the time from diagn...

Necrotizing fasciitis caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae has been described in Southeast Asia, but has only recently begun to emerge in North America. The hypermucoviscous strain of K. pneumoniae is a particularly virulent strain known to cause devastatingly invasive infections, including necrotizing fasciitis. Here we present the first known case of necrotizing fasciitis caused by hypermucoviscou...

We report a case of an acute necrotizing supraglottitis in a healthy patient. Only seven cases of necrotizing epiglottitis/supraglottitis have been reported in medical literature; all in immunocompromised patients. The features and characteristics of necrotizing epiglottitis are discussed with review of all previously reported cases.

Serratia marcescens is an extremely rare cause of necrotizing fasciitis. We report the first case of necrotizing fasciitis of the chest wall due to infection with S. marcescens that initially manifested as bilateral breast necrosis. The patient had a fulminant course leading to death within 72 h of presentation. Literature pertinent to S. marcescens-mediated necrotizing fasciitis is also reviewed.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare infection that characterized by rapidly progressing necrosis into the superficial and deep tissues. NF can result in serious morbidity mortality as life-threatening condition. Early diagnosis one of most important factors reducing mortality. Therefore, we aimed to describe case severe necrotizing left arm after tetanus vaccination administration discuss bene...

Necrotizing fasciitis is a life-threatening soft tissue infection that results in rapid local tissue destruction. Type 1 necrotizing fasciitis is characterized by polymicrobial, synergistic infections that are caused by non-Group A streptococci, aerobic and anaerobic organisms. Type 2 necrotizing fasciitis involves Group A Streptococcus (GAS) with or without a coexisting staphylococcal infectio...
