Odontogenic myxoma is a rare and locally invasive benign neoplasm found exclusively in jaws. It presents local invasiveness and tendency to recurrence. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the odontogenic myxoma is classified as an odontogenic tumor of ectomesenchymal origin. The odontogenic myxoma is a rare entity found in both jaws while the mandible is involved more commonly tha...
The soluble antigen of myxoma is a heat-labile protein which has an isoelectric point near pH 4.5 and is precipitated from half saturated solutions of ammonium sulfate. It can be partially purified by methods of differential precipitation based on variations in the pH and electrolyte concentration. Rabbits receiving the labile, soluble substance of myxoma develop homologous precipitins and thei...
Atrial myxomas are benign tumors, and most of them are located in the left atrium. Left atrial myxoma commonly leads to cerebral embolic ischemic stroke. The intracranial aneurysm is rarely associated with myxoma. There are few reports about left atrial myxoma leading simultaneously to both anterior and posterior circulation infarction, and multiple intracranial saccular aneurysms. Now we repor...
We report on a woman with previously unknown left atrial myxoma, who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. 45 months after the initial coronary angiography, echocardiography demonstrated a large atrial myxoma, which was not seen echocardiographically before. The retrospective analysis of the pre-intervention coronary angiography revealed atypical vessels in the atrial septum, which are ...
Myxoma of the aortic valve is an exceedingly uncommon condition. In this article, we report the case of a 72-year-old man with myxoma arising from the aortic valve. We extirpated the mass and repaired the aortic valve with the patient under cardiopulmonary bypass. The postoperative course was uneventful. Histological examination confirmed that the mass was a myxoma.
BACKGROUND Myxoma is the commonest cardiac neoplasm. Due to varying symptomatology, its diagnosis can prove difficult. It is agreed to have an excellent prognosis. AIM Assessing the clinical course in patients operated on due to cardiac myxoma in two departments of cardiac surgery over the course of a decade. METHODS The medical records of patients operated on due to cardiac myxoma between ...
Nerve sheath myxoma has been described as a rare neural tumor arising from Schwann cells. It is observed most frequently in the central area of the face, neck and upper extremities. In the past the term neurothekeoma was used as synonym for nerve sheath myxoma but according to new reports, they are separate entities which can be confirmed by immunohistochemistry as in our case. Oral involvement...
Abstract A 57-year-old female presented to emergency with features of right heart failure. On evaluation, she was found have a large mass occupying atrium (RA) completely and protruding into ventricle through tricuspid valve. Intraoperatively, seen arising from RA free wall stony hard consistency. Histopathology revealed it be myxoma. We present this case for the rare presentation myxoma masque...
Cardiac myxoma is most common among primary cardiac tumors, and its origin and tumor characteristics have been gradually elucidated by recent advances in molecular biology. Prichard's structure in the interatrial septum which was reported to be a candidate for the origin of cardiac myxoma, was revealed to be age-related changes. In hereditary cardiac myxoma "Carney complex", chromosomal abnorma...
Myxoma virus is a rabbit-specific poxvirus pathogen that also exhibits a unique tropism for human tumor cells and is dramatically oncolytic for human cancer xenografts. Most tumor cell lines tested are permissive for myxoma infection in a fashion intimately tied to the activation state of Akt kinase. A host range factor of myxoma virus, M-T5, directly interacts with Akt and mediates myxoma viru...
