The draft genome sequence of Methylophaga muralis strain Bur 1 (VKM B-3046T), a non-methane-utilizing methylotroph isolated from a soda lake, is reported here. Strain Bur 1 possesses genes for methanol and methylamine (methylamine dehydrogenase and N-methylglutamate pathway) oxidation. Genes for the biosynthesis of ectoine were also found.

When grown on methylamine as a sole carbon source, Paracoccus denitrificans synthesizes a Type I blue copper protein which mediates electron transfer between methylamine dehydrogenase and cytochrome c. This blue copper protein does not serve as an electron acceptor for methanol dehydrogenase and is not synthesized by cells grown on methanol or succinate. The blue copper protein and methylamine ...

The uptake of methylamine as the sole nitrogen, but not carbon, source by Pseudomonas sp. strain MA was investigated. Under these growth conditions, a high-affinity, low-capacity uptake system was present having a Km of 16 microM and Vmax of 2 nmol.min-.mg (dry weight) of cells that was competitively inhibited by ammonium chloride. The transport system was induced by growth on succinate with me...

A novel method for the deprotection of oligodeoxyribonucleotides has been developed. Gaseous amines such as ammonia or methylamine were employed under pressure to achieve mild and rapid deprotection conditions. For example, oligodeoxyribonucleotides having a (tert-butyl)phenoxyacetyl group for the protection of the exocyclic amino function of cytosine, adenine and guanine were released from con...

First-principles calculations for colloidal PbS nanocrystals reveal a sizable dependence of surface energy on the solution environment. In vacuum, the bare (100) surface is more stable than the bare (111) surface. Methylamine adsorption, however, preferentially lowers the energy of the unreconstructed (111), but the lowering is insufficient to reverse the energy order. Methylamine coadsorption ...

Cellular methylamines are osmolytes (low molecular weight organic compounds) believed to offset the urea's harmful effects on the stability and function of proteins in mammalian kidney and marine invertebrates. Although urea and methylamines are found at 2:1 molar ratio in tissues, their opposing effects on protein structure and function have been questioned on several grounds including failure...

The fourth component of complement (C4) is inactivated by treatment with methylamine. This property is shared wit the third component (C3) and with alpha 2-macroglobulin. In each instance, the reaction with methylamine is stoichiometric, covalent, and accompanied by the appearance of a thiol group. These data are consistent with the presence of an internal thiolester bond. Incubation of C4 with...

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes (TNT) were successfully synthesized using different N-containing ligands via hydrothermal method. Methylamine, ethylenediamine and diethylenetriamine with Ti/ligand molar ratios (1:1, 1:3, 1:5 1:8) prepared. As-synthesized TiO2 without also prepared for comparison purpose. The X-Ray Diffraction patterns confirmed the presence of anatase phase in all samples whe...

Clustering of ligands into coated regions of the plasma membrane is an early step in receptor-mediated endocytosis. The association of Pseudomonas exotoxin A (PE) with mouse LM fibroblasts was visualized by using biotinyl-PE and avidingold. Movement of PE into coated regions occurred within 30 s of warming monolayers to 37 degrees C. This clustering was stopped by the primary amines methylamine...

Free energy of transfer of methylamine, octylamine, methanol, and octanol from water phase to sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelle has been calculated using thermodynamic integration method combined with molecular dynamics calculations. Together with the results for alkanes obtained in our previous study [K. Fujimoto, N. Yoshii, and S. Okazaki, J. Chem. Phys. 133, 074511 (2010)], the effect of ...
