Hydrogen has the potential to power much of the modern world with only water as a by-product, but storing hydrogen safely and efficiently in solid form such as magnesium hydride remains a major obstacle. A significant challenge has been the difficulty of proving the hydriding/dehydriding mechanisms and, therefore, the mechanisms have long been the subject of debate. Here we use in situ ultra-hi...

In this paper, using a standard quantum chemistry approach based on pseudopotentials for atomic core representation, Gaussian basis sets, and effective core polarization potentials, we investigate the electronic properties of the MgH ion. We first determine potential energy curves for several states using different basis sets and discuss their predicted accuracy by comparing our values of the w...

Abstract Metal hydrides are regarded as one of the most attractive options for thermal energy storage (TES) materials concentrated solar applications. Improved performance such systems is vitally determined by effectiveness heat exchange between metal hydride and transfer fluid (HTF). This paper presents a numerical study supported experimental validation on magnesium reactor fitted with helica...

A protocol for the synthesis of α-alkynylnitrones from 1,3-enynes has been developed. The process is triggered by hydromagnesiation with magnesium hydride (MgH2), which prepared in situ through solvothermal treatment iodide (MgI2) sodium (NaH) tetrahydrofuran. Downstream functionalization resulting propargylmagnesium intermediates organo nitro compounds affords α-alkynylnitrones, could be used ...

A 90 wt.% MgH2 – 10 wt.% V2O5 composite was obtained by ball milling of a mixture of magnesium hydride and vanadia for 60 min under argon. Hydrogen sorption properties of the composite were determined volumetrically with a Sieverts-type device. Absorption was studied at temperatures of 473 and 573 K and pressure of 1 MPa, while desorption was investigated at T = 573 and 623 K and P = 0.15 MPa. ...
