Myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) is a potent inhibitor of neurite outgrowth from a variety of neurons. The receptor for MAG or signals that elicit morphological changes in neurons remained to be established. Here we show that the neurotrophin receptor p75 (p75(NTR)) is the signal transducing element for MAG. Adult dorsal root ganglion neurons or postnatal cerebellar neurons from mice carryi...
Inhibitory components in myelin are largely responsible for the lack of regeneration in the mammalian CNS. Myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG), a sialic acid binding protein and a component of myelin, is a potent inhibitor of neurite outgrowth from a variety of neurons both in vitro and in vivo. Here, we show that MAG's sialic acid binding site is distinct from its neurite inhibitory activity....
We reported the result of long term optical variability of the blazar 4C 29.45 (QSO 1156+295, Ton 599), carried out optical photometric observations in Johnson V, Cousins RI passbands during April 1997 to March 2002 using the 1.56 meter telescope of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) at Sheshan, China, compiled the post-1974 optical photometric data of the blazar by combining our new ...
We present deep BV RI CCD photometry of the stars in the dwarf irregular galaxy SagDIG. The color-magnitude diagrams of the measured stars in SagDIG show a blue plume which consists mostly of young stellar populations, and a well-defined red giant branch (RGB). The foreground reddening of SagDIG is estimated to be E(B − V ) = 0.06. The tip of the RGB is found to be at ITRGB = 21.55 ± 0.10 mag. ...
Background and Objectives: Canola oil is very low in saturated fatty acid (~8 %), which makes it suitable for application as dressing for salad. Canola oil is liquid, thus its application in the production of margarine and shortening is limited. The present study provides information about the effects of monoacylglycerols (MAG) as the structuring agent on physical, microstructure and rheologica...
Myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) is a potent inhibitor of axonal regeneration. It contains five Ig-like domains and is a sialic binding protein. Previously, we showed that the sialic acid binding site on MAG maps to arginine 118 in Ig domain 1 (Kelm et al., 1994). However, sialic acid binding was neither necessary nor sufficient for MAG to bring about inhibition of neurite outgrowth. Consis...
