We investigated the utility of time-lapse photography to provide population estimates and lamb : ewe ratios of mountain sheep populations. We compared 2 methods of time-lapse data analysis: group sampling and frame sampling. We failed to reject the null hypothesis that population estimates and lamb : ewe ratios from time-lapse and direct observation sampling were the same.
BACKGROUND Contextual variables often predict long-term abstinence, but little is known about how these variables exert their effects. These variables could influence abstinence by affecting the ability to quit at all, or by altering risk of lapsing, or progressing from a lapse to relapse. PURPOSE To examine the effect of common predictors of smoking-cessation failure on smoking-cessation pro...
Time-lapse photography, in which images are captured at a lower rate than that at which they will ultimately be played back. Classic time-lapse photography subjects are scenes. Today, most of those image sequences are collected by the thousands of Internet cameras. They typically provide outdoor views of cities, construction sites, traffic, the weather, or natural phenomena. However, Time-lapse...
Time-lapse imaging of fluorescently labeled cells in organotypic slice culture provides a unique window through which to view development of the embryonic forebrain. The live imaging approach allows investigators to directly observe and record neurogenic and gliogenic divisions in the developing forebrain, to record the proliferative behavior of embryonic precursor cells, and to track newborn c...
The generation of four-dimensional (4D) confocal datasets; consisting of 3D image sequences over time; provides an excellent methodology to capture cellular behaviors involved in developmental processes. The ability to track and follow cell movements is limited by sample movements that occur due to drift of the sample or, in some cases, growth during image acquisition. Tracking cells in datase...
We studied the phenomenon of photothermal bleaching - a gradual reduction of contrast agent particles during repeated scans in photoacoustic microscopy. The dependence of the photothermal bleaching rate on the excitation pulse energy, pulse duration, and the absorber's size was determined while the laser focal diameter was held constant. Our results showed that, the dependence of the phototherm...
