稲越断層は岐阜県北部に分布する活断層の一つである．著者らは稲越断層の活動性評価に資するべく，断層西部に露出する未報告の断層露頭を記載した．本断層露頭は地形的に検出された断層トレース上に位置し，幅約5 mの断層ガウジ・断層角礫帯を有する．複合面構造は右横ずれを示し，地形解釈に基づく運動方向と調和的である．断層を覆う砂礫層は局所的に断層帯内部に挟み込まれており，砂礫層に含まれる腐植土の放射性炭素年代はAD 1521-1658であった．これらのことは，本断層露頭が稲越断層の本体であること，稲越断層は約500-350年前以降に岐阜県北部で発生した4つの歴史地震のいずれかに伴い活動した可能性があることを示す．
