Conducting polymer (CP)-based electrochemical biosensors have gained great attention as such biosensor platforms are easy and cost-effective to fabricate, and provide a direct electrical readout for the presence of biological analytes with high sensitivity and selectivity. CP materials themselves are both sensing elements and transducers of the biological recognition event at the same time, sim...

The emergence of organic electronics – a technology that relies on carbon-based semiconductors to deliver devices with unique properties – represents one of the most dramatic developments of the past two decades. A rapidly emerging new direction in the field involves the interface with biology. The " soft " nature of organics offers better mechanical compatibility with tissue than traditional e...

Conducting polymers of a Schiff-base ligand and the corresponding oxo-vanadium(IV) complex have been synthesized, characterized, and studied. The metal-free ligand polymer allows for direct comparison between the properties of the ligand polymer and corresponding conducting metallopolymer. The role of the metal centers in the conducting metallopolymer is elucidated unambiguously.

A strategy for fabrication of electroactive nanocomposites with nanoscale organization, based on self-assembly, is reported. Gold nanoparticles are assembled by a polypeptide folding-dependent bridging. The polypeptides are further utilized to recruit and associate with a water soluble conducting polymer. The polymer is homogenously incorporated into the nanocomposite, forming conducting pathwa...

The conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is well known for its electrochromic properties in the visible region. Less focus has been devoted to the infrared (IR) wavelength range, although tunable IR properties could enable a wide range of novel applications. As an example, modern day vehicles have thermal cameras to identify pedestrians and animals in total darkness, but ...

Conducting polymers are widely used as electrode coatings in electrophysiology to lower impedance and achieve higher quality recordings more efficient stimulation. Their availability dispersions that can be processed directly from solution makes them particularly attractive for applications, where low cost compatibility with mechanically flexible substrates important. In this work, we demonstra...
