BACKGROUND Although pacemakers are primarily used for the treatment of bradycardia, diagnostic data available in current pacemakers allow them to be also used as sophisticated, continuous monitoring devices. Easy access to these stored data may assist clinicians in making diagnostic and therapeutic decisions sooner, thus avoiding potential long-term sequelae due to untreated clinical disorders....

This paper deals with an overview and analysis of methods for inspecting surface quality. The overview is done by a new classification based on common mathematical concept yielding four groups of methods. First, techniques based on curvature, such as colour-coded map, lines of curvature, isolines of curvature, and focal surfaces are considered. They are followed by methods based on illumination...

A novel interrogation technique for fiber Bragg gratings is presented. It is based on measuring the characteristics of the outgoing near-field radiation from a tilted fiber grating. This scheme was experimentally checked and was found to offer a wide wavelength interrogation range as well as a good linearity, stability, and wavelength resolution.

A technique for contactless electromagnetic interrogation of AT-cut quartz piezoelectric resonator sensors is proposed based on a primary coil electromagnetically air-coupled to a secondary coil connected to the electrodes of the resonator. The interrogation technique periodically switches between interleaved excitation and detection phases. During the excitation phase, the resonator is set int...
