Here, we introduce a simple and fast method for bonding a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) silicone elastomer to different plastics. In this technique, surface modification and subsequent bonding processes are performed at room temperature. Furthermore, only one chemical is needed, and no surface oxidation step is necessary prior to bonding. This bonding method is particularly suitable for encapsu...

The formation of supramolecular polymers in water through rational design of a benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA) motif is presented. Intermolecular hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic effects cooperate in the self-assembly into long fibrillar aggregates. Minimal changes in molecular structure significantly affect the internal packing of the aggregates.

The effect of internal and applied external electric fields on the vibrational stretching frequency for bound CO (nu(CO)) in myoglobin mutants was studied using density functional theory. Geometry optimization and frequency calculations were carried out for an imidazole-iron-porphine-carbonmonoxy adduct with various small molecule hydrogen-bonding groups. Over 70 vibrational frequency calculati...

Objective: The bonding adhesive holds the composite filling to the residual tooth, creating a chain cross-–link during the photo polymerization process. In this article we will be discussing the polymerization process under a thermodynamic viewpoint between amorphous structures of the dental market adhesives, the hybrid layer of the residual tooth and the white polymers filling. The thermodynam...

A regioselective Heck reaction of aliphatic olefins and aryl bromides is realized at internal carbons of olefins. Methanol solvent promoted halide ionization from neutral arylpalladium halide complexes via hydrogen bonding, so as to create cationic aryl-Pd species for regioselective olefin insertion.

New guanidine-derived superbases with TBD-functionalized alkyl side chains have been developed using a computational DFT approach. Exploiting the high hydrogen bond basicity of TBD allowed access to systems with strong charge-assisted intramolecular hydrogen bonds in the protonated state. The enhanced stability of such guanidines is mirrored in their gas-phase basicities, which cover the range ...

BACKGROUND The current surgical therapy of midfacial fractures involves internal fixation in which bone fragments are fixed in their anatomical positions with osteosynthesis plates and corresponding screws until bone healing is complete. This often causes new fractures to fragile bones while drilling pilot holes or trying to insert screws. The adhesive fixation of osteosynthesis plates using PM...

We used electronic circular dichroism (CD) and UV resonance Raman (UVRR) spectroscopy at 204 nm excitation to examine the temperature dependence of conformational changes in cyclic and linear elastin peptides. We utilize CD spectroscopy to study global conformation changes in elastin peptides, while UVRR is utilized to probe the local conformation and hydrogen bonding of Val and Pro peptide bon...

Internal loops in RNA are important for folding and function. Many folding motifs are internal loops containing GA base pairs, which are usually thermodynamically stabilizing, i.e., contribute favorable free energy to folding. Understanding the sequence dependence of folding stability and structure in terms of molecular interactions, such as hydrogen bonding and base stacking, will provide a fo...
