Intensity modulation with direct modulation (IM/DD) favors low duty cycle modulation schemes such as pulse position modulation (PPM) and multiple PPM(MPPM).In this paper, the channel model over IM/DD is introduced. Then, a brief summary is given about some of the modulation techniques used in this area. Finally, some of the pulse position based coded modulation techniques are rewiewed.

We present a dynamical analysis of lossless intensity modulation in two different ring resonator geometries. In both geometries, we demonstrate modulation schemes that result in a symmetrical output with an infinite on/off ratio. The systems behave as lossless intensity modulators where the time-averaged output optical power is equal to the time-averaged input optical power.

Lipid metabolism in the liver is complex and involves the synthesis and secretion of very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), ketone bodies, and high rates of fatty acid oxidation, synthesis, and esterification. Exercise training induces several changes in lipid metabolism in the liver and affects VLDL secretion and fatty acid oxidation. These alterations are even more conspicuous in disease, as i...

We present a generalized optimal transport model in which the mass-preserving constraint for the L-Wasserstein distance is relaxed by introducing a source term in the continuity equation. The source term is also incorporated in the path energy by means of its squared L-norm in time of a functional with linear growth in space. This extension of the original transport model enables local density ...

We present how the laser diode (LD) current tuning induced intensity modulation affects the performance of an open-loop resonator fibre optic gyro (R-FOG) with sinusoidal wave modulation. The expression for the demodulation curve under intensity modulation caused by the dynamic input rotation angular rate and varied environmental factors induced resonance frequency drift is provided. Numerical ...

This work introduces a new technology for electron intensity modulation, which uses small area island blocks within the collimating aperture and small area island apertures in the collimating insert. Due to multiple Coulomb scattering, electrons contribute dose under island blocks and lateral to island apertures. By selecting appropriate lateral positions and diameters of a set of island blocks...

Here we demonstrate theoretically that stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) can induce a phase shift of the optical carrier relative to its sidebands due to the waveguiding effect of the optical fiber on the acoustic wave. This causes conversion of frequency modulation to intensity modulation, which results in an increase in the relative intensity noise and degradation of the modulation respon...

This letter explores the possibility of testing pulsar radio emission models by observing pulse-to-pulse intensity modulation. It is shown that a relationship between a pulsar’s period, period derivative, and intensity modulation is a natural consequence of at least one theoretical model of radio pulsar emission. It is proposed that other models may also predict a similar correlation. The exact...

A time difference method to conveniently measure the phase shift between output wavelength and intensity of distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB-LDs) was proposed. This approach takes advantage of asymmetric absorption positions at the same wavelength during wavelength increase and decrease tuning processes in the intensity-time curve by current modulation. For its practical implementation, a...

using a new numerical model, the pump-to-signal relative intensity noise (rin) transfer in singlepumpfiber optical parametric amplifiers for low modulation frequencies is investigated. the model includesfiber loss, pump depletion, as well as the gain saturation, and therefore, it can describe the practicalcircumstances associated with various applications of fiber optical parametric amplifiers....
